Hawaii Babies

so slow around here these days...

Sad  what's everyone doing for the long weekend (in the US)?

ours has been super chill.  playdate yesterday with some friends whose daughter is 1 week older than E.  just hung out today, went to the park.  no plans tomorrow either.  it's great Smile and the weather has even been really nice!

  • We've been chill, too.  MH had to work yesterday, but H and I met up with some friends at the splash park for the last time of the summer (it closes tomorrow).  Today we were all home.  We went to Roti for lunch, then to the park later in the afternoon, but that's about it.  It was nice to just relax together just the three of us.

Tomorrow we're going apple picking!  We normally don't go until October, but Honey Crisps pick early, and we wanted to catch those this year. It's only supposed to be in the mid-sixties tomorrow, and I'm really looking forward to it.  I'm so ready for fall!

  • Lots of football, visiting with family, and a movie date for me and DH. Quality family time all around! :)

  • I know - it's been super quiet! I may have to post some inane polls just to liven things up. Stick out tongue

We haven't been up to much for the past couple of days - the boys are sick and have given it to me (mostly it's a really sore throat, which I can live with but Will and Dash keep waking up crying at night, poor guys).

LOVE honey crisps too...didn't even "discover" them until I moved to the midwest!

  • We moved into our new house! Saturday we had three guys and BIG truck move all of our heavy furniture, etc. It was over 100 degrees out! I felt SO bad for them!

Yesterday, J rented a U-Haul to get our remaining boxed items (we had a TON of stuff from when my mom moved out here in 2009...basically 99% of her stuff was in boxes in the garage these past 2.5 years!) Meanwhile I started to unpack, get things in order. Libby's "big girl" room and the nursery are set up about 99%. Our room is at about 75%. I've got to get our clothes sorted and put away today so we're ready for the work week. The bathroom is pretty much all done, save for some random toiletries that I am have tempted to toss anyway.

Gratefully, it cooled down to about 85 yesterday and today is supposed to be cooler than that. I want to take Libby to the playground but have yet to find her shoes! My mom, in her attempt to help, dumped them into a random box that we've yet to open/find. She's like that when she moves...just shoves random things into a box together and doesn't label it! Indifferent I am the opposite, everything is labeled clearly and boxed according to function or room. So yeah, I am very annoyed about this. Ah well, I guess I can pop into Target this morning and get Libby some sneakers or something on the way to the playground.

Hooray! Found them...in the bottom of Libby's hamper. Good thing I am doing laundry this morning or else who knows when I would have found them!

yay, have fun at the playground!  reminds me - i'm still missing a stack of maternity clothes that I misplaced after our move (last summer!).  i know they go unpacked, but they've been missing ever since!

congrats again on the new house!  sounds like you're getting settled in quite nicely Smile

speaking of which - redshoelisa - how's the new town?  and ben's new job?  have you started job hunting or did you decide to stay home for a while?

  • It really has been so quiet around here.  We're doing good and have had a really long weekend.  MH took Friday off so we could go to our annual fair.  J had a blast and tried his first "little donut" (cinnamon/sugar covered) that is a tradition at the fair.  He wasn't so sure, I think he liked the cinnamon and sugar the best.

Yesterday we walked over to our local farmer's market and it was a beautiful day.  MH went to the park in the afternoon to meet up with his friend and his daughters.  I was at home ALONE for the first time in months!  I think we plan on going downtown and to the aquarium today or to our really big park in the city. :)  I don't want the w/end to end because he starts daycare tomor... sad.

The new town is..quiet. LOL which we knew it would be, and we're pretty quiet people anyway so it's fine. Big Smile

Ben is really enjoying his new job - he does a much wider range of jobs, which keeps it interesting, and has a lot more project work (which was one of the major attractants for him in the first place).

I was job hunting for a while and still have job alerts for a few websites, but I've stopped applying for anything and everything. Daycare is tight here - there are only 3 centers, none of which have vacancies at the moment - so it's going to be very tricky to find a full time job and full time daycare at the same time (and since daycare for 2 kids under 2 = $40k per year, we can't afford to send them if I'm not working, just in the hopes that I'll find a job). There should be more places available and it will get cheaper when they turn 2 years old, so for now we've pretty much settled on me being a SAHM until then. If something really good came up - like a library job, which are very rare here - then I'd still apply no matter what, but I'm not going for generic administration jobs.

Other than that, we're settling into SAHM life, and that's a whole other post that I'll do in a moment!

  • I know, it's been so quiet here lately!!!

we didn't do much for the holiday out of the norm. DH was working so Miss A and I just did our usual things :)  it has been soooooooo nice though b/c it has cooled down and we are no longer having triple digit heat so we can spend time outside again!!!

  • we just had a relazing weekend running errands and were happy to be natural disaster-free!  last night we went to a friend's house for dinner, and the woman told us that her boyfriend's mom wants them to have kids soon, and was excited that they were hosting a toddler.  Well, I'm pretty sure that visit did nothing to make them want to have kids!    LB was such a wreck from taking a short nap, being out past bathtime/bedtime and not wanting to eat and wanting to explore the new place he was in that was not at all baby-proofed.... not a good combo.  He was only cute for part of the evening... and probably just to us!
  • njswimmer - haha that is funny.

a lot of our friends are having babies soon (like w/in the next 2-5mo) and they joke it it was because J was such a cute, sweet baby (we were one of the first to have a child in this group).  the last few months he has really started testing boundaries and such so when we had a bbq a few weeks ago and they got a glimpse of toddler hood I think more than a couple of them left kind of scared.  haha.

  • ugh!  I was laid up in bed with strep.  And it was SOOOO nice outside.  torture!!

luckily I didn't get knocked out until Saturday night after getting home from a college football game (something I look forward to all year) and will be 100% by this weekend's game I'm sure.

I'm back to work today.  kind of weak.  but better than taking another sick day I guess.  you can't hang by the pool on a sick day right? :)

  • oh, and one more update!

on monday (at 5:30am - eek!!) I start 3/week personal training sessions at my gym.  I think it will be just the kick start I need.  And because it was a financial sacrifice I KNOW I will stick with it.
