Pregnant after IF

How long did you wait?

How long did you wait to talk baby names, and registry and nursery?

Seriously, DH and I haven't talked names yet at all! Not even thrown around suggestions. We've both just been so hesitant and scared that something was going to happen to take this from us.

Now that we're almost halfway, and have found out the gender.... I think I'm starting to feel more at ease.

I've obvisouly been planning the nursery since finding out Friday, but we've still yet to really talk names.

Am I the only abnormal one? Friends and random people keep asking if we've talked names, and when I tell them "No", they are shocked?

Re: How long did you wait?

  • This may be funny, but we haven't had a single serious conversation about names but we have registered.  Our first shower is when I'm 27 weeks already (my mom has a vaca from work, so that timing worked out best), so that's why we registered.  But I have no idea why neither of us has brought up names....I think in the back of our minds, we think we'll jinx it or something.  Even before we went to register, we had no idea what colors/theme we wanted the nursery done in.  I do admit that it's weird, but we just have such a guarded excitement since our m/c.

  • you are not abnormal - it's perfectly normal to be hesitant about these things.

DH wouldn't even LISTEN to a name suggestion until we knew at least one of the babies' gender. once we knew what one baby was, he was fine assigning a name to it (i had a girl name picked out forever and so that became that baby's name). once we found out baby #2's gender, it took us prolly 12 weeks to settle on a first name and then 2 middle names. literally i think last week is when we settled. and this is just b/c i am a planner and don't have it in me to make it a game time decision at the hospital.

we registered at 22-ish weeks on a whim and it felt sooo weird to do it. like it was too early or something, but for whatever reason we were at BRU and did it.

as far as the nursery? we just did some work on it yesterday. well, i should say DH painted it when we moved in to this house when i was about 20 weeks, but we had done nothing else to it until yesterday. even now, our cribs, dresser, etc, won't arrive until mid-Oct (well after the babies are here) b/c we put it off too long!

sorry this is so long - just wanted to make it clear that you are not strange for not doing a lot of these things yet. i think it's normal, esp with all the IF struggles we've had...

  • We started talking about names right away, and decided on a girl name pretty much from the beginning.  But I didn't start my registry for a long time and only did it because I had a shower coming up.  I've been doing things to get ready for the baby but haven't really felt like I'm totally ready yet.  So, no, you're not alone :)

  • Haha this sounds weird but DH and I talked names when we were dating. When we finally got KU we immediately decided on a girl name and had 2 boy names narrowed down. We definately didn't tell anyone our names until we knew boy or girl and I was pretty shy about telling everyone when we found out girl. DH has been the one telling everyone so I just let him go with it. No matter what happens, I've seen this baby, I've felt this baby and she's always going to be apart of me.

  • I forgot when we started talking seriously about names, but when we were still trying we kind of talk about naming our baby Evie if it's a girl. E + V from our first initials. So when we found out we're having a boy we pretty much stuck with Evan. I tried to look at options for other boy names that starts with EV and I can't find any we like. Middle name is a different story. We're still struggling with that. We can't seem to find any that we completely in love with. So we'll see...

  • We had a boy name picked out about two years before actually getting pregnant, but we spent hours on name websites making lists of girl names starting at around six weeks. It is so much pressure to get it right! GL!
  • About 15 weeks or so I think we started to talk names, when we found out the sex. We still don't have one. We didn't really register-I went on Amazon and chose a few things but really didn't involve DH (we live overseas, so no showers). We just set up the crib, still need to buy stroller, car seat....

  • We have two boy names picked out and we started after we found out the gender. We are waiting to meet Hume before we give him a name though. The nursery started around the same time. I wanted to make sure it was for real before ordering furniture. I ordered furniture with my first pregnancy way way early and ended up miscarrying and sold it to my step sister.
  • I registered for some items by 15 weeks and have been updating and refining ever since!

Names for two boys are really hard for DH and I.  I talk about it pretty rarely and have no idea what to choose.  We won;t finalize the names until the boys actually come out!  (We won't tell anyone either! :)

  • We've been talking names since before we ever got married, so we knew our short list.  We began more seriously discussing them after we got a gender guess at our NT scan at 12w and have pretty much nailed it down to our favorite.  We're not deciding for sure until we see her and see if it seems to fit.

DH could've cared less about the nursery, but I did ask his opinions.  I had already bought the bedding since it was discontinued before we ever got our BFP.  We started working on the nursery and did our registry around the time of our anatomy scan, so about 19 weeks.  I've tweaked it numerous times since then though!  :)
