2-question Pet Names Poll

This is random, I know.

1-  Do you your pets have middle names?

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?

* Apologies, in advance, for anyone considering the names Rover, Spot or Fluffy for their next child. :-)

Re: 2-question Pet Names Poll

  • 1- Do you your pets have middle names? Officially, no. But we do call Indie "Indie Mutts the Doggie".

2- Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)? Well I guess Indie is named after a person, who is named after a dog... Indiana Jones "We named the dog Indiana!"

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  It is unofficially Jessie Stink Butt

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?  A little of both.  I've had a Shoobie, Mrs. Morris, #101, Rocky, and Fluffy, but also had Mandy, Lucy, and Jessie :)

  • My DH and I differ on this, so I was curious.  Growing up, he always had cats and they never used human names, nor middle names. They believe in not naming a pet until you know its personality, and then using those quirks to name it.  (ie- Pixie, Rumble, Snotter, Twitter, Brash, Rascal)

1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  Yes, always.  My family has always thought of pets as furry kids, so they should get a mn just as our kids would/do.  My cat is Lucy Blue.  The kitty I lost in '07 was Lily Quinn.  Growing up, our dog was "Daffy," full name Daffodil Delight (my parents named her).  My sister has a cat and 3 dogs and my brother has a dog.  They all have middle names. :-)

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?   I've done both.  It just depends on what sounds good or goes with that animal's looks.  As I mentioned, my cats are/were Lucy and Lily.  But we had lots of dogs with names like Scruffy, Oatmeal, and Scooter, and our cat was Popcorn ("Poppie").

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  My dogs full name is Her Royal Highness Snowy Pebbles.  But that is mostly because dogs registered with the AKC usually have crazy long names and I didn't want her to feel left out.  ;)  And also because her moms name is Princess and her dad (and both his parents) have Snowy in their names too.2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?  Her name is Pebbles.  My old cat was Sassy.  My cat long before that was Tootse.  And DH and I have talked about the possibility of a new pup.  We're considering the name Pickles.  He wants to get a cat and name it Topatoes.  Don't ask.  So in short, we pretty much use "pet-type names."

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  Yes, they all do.  Murphy Jake, Sophie Mae, Sally Clementine, Avery Jean, Cappuccino Wilhelmina, Holden Dean Walker (he gets 2) and June Victoria.2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?  Our first dog was Jumper, named by my parents.  Mine have always had human names, other than Cappy who came with her name.  Sally's was Sassy and I changed it, Sassy just didn't fit her.  I guess Murphy is more of a dog name but it could be used for a human, I suppose.

  •   1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  Nope   2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?  Both -  I had a lot of cats growing up: "Callie" (because she was Calico), Skeeter, Skitter, Smokey, Butch, Simone, Little Girl, Tiny Tim (he was missing 1 paw :)) .. etc. and dogs: Shadow, Brandy, Hunter - now we just have 1 dog - Maverick :)

  • 1. Middle names - Not officially.  But they have so many nicknames it's ridiculous.  Moose the Cat is also Moosius, Sir Moose-alot, Moosarooni, Moose the Brave....and more.

    2. People names for pets?  Kind of.  We have Moose, Smudge and Betsy.  Betsy was mostly because she's black and white and has bony hips - like a cow.  In the past I have had cats named Rachel and Susan - but I blame that on being a kid and desperately wanting a sister.  Now we mostly stick with more pet-type names.

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  not Really, We do call our chihuahua that's name is Bambi Bamballena a lot though.

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?  One of dogs name is Bailey which is a people name. I don't have an issue with naming a dog a persons name.  If the name fits it doesn't matter to me. I'd like to name a pet Steve or Kyle one day. Haha

  • No middle names here. our shi tzu growing up was sir charles s taylor the 1st.

Current furry kids names are Sumo for the dog, and Mims is the kitty. My last cat and screen name inspiration was Toby sadly she passed away a few years back. So it seems that we have a mix of people and pet names.

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names? 3 out of 4 do.  Ellie Mae, Frankie Doo, and Stella Bean.  Nico is our other cat...but nothing went with Nico, so no middle name.2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)? Yes, they all do.  And their names fit each of them quite well.  I do kind of wish I'd saved Ellie and Stella for human kids, but oh well. :)  Growing up though we had a cat named Ms.Piggy.  I have no idea how we got that, but I loved it.  Obviously that one wasn't human.

  • 1. Yes, I call my cat Atticus Charles when he's being bad.  It's my BIL's middle name. ;)

    2. I guess I do use people names (past pets have been: Atticus, Archie, Nelly, Rosie) but we've also had pet-type names (Pepper...)

  • I had a Nellie! Best dog ever in the history of the world!

I've had a Taffy, Nellie, Casey, Winancka and a Zoe.  Winacka was becasue we needed a W name that was not currently in the seeing eye dog program, otherwise we go with pet-i-fied people names. Also in my family:Webster and Sammy.

  • Interesting responses and great pet names!

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names? No, but he has about a million nick names. We rarely call him by his actual name unless he is in trouble. 2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?We named Wylie after Bob Wiley in "What About Bob" so I guess technically that's a people's name. Our other pets have always had people names too: Casey, Polly, Toby, Clara, Holly, Jenny. Even my first fish had a people name: Norman. My second fish was Finn, which is what one of our friends named their son (not after my fish though).

  • 1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  yes, since our dog is ABCA  (American Border Collie Association)  She had to have a registered name.  We couldn't think of anything super cool though.

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)? People names are fine I think.  My first pet as an adult was a 'Katie'.   Since we have and will get another Border Collie, DH wants Border Collie worthy names.  He loves her name 'Kelty', but thinks they should be names that represent the breed.  Speed, agility, etc...  If you know BOrder Collies, you know what I mean.  :)

Now, Kelty's nickname is KeltySmelty or just Kelts.

My dog growing up was "forty" we got him with that name, so NO idea how they came up with that.  I can imagine it was something to do with a 40oz beer...?  He was THE best dog EVER.

;) We told her she was going to hear a lot of that. She just recently said they're thinking of giving her two middle names, since my sister has two middle names. I think they might go with Ellie Olivia Mae instead.

  • This is random, I know.

1-  Do you your pets have middle names?  No middle names.  Unless "God Damn Cujo your farts stink!" is actually my dog's middle name.

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?  When we were kids we named our cat Bobby after our Uncle Bob.

    * Apologies, in advance, for anyone considering the names Rover, Spot or Fluffy for their next child. :-)

1-  Do you your pets have middle names?

My cat was dubbed Sir Mumford Ewok the Bumbling (I was 15, and it's a long story...lol) so, yes. He ends up getting called Mumsie, Mumfordamus, Mumps, etc.

2-  Do you ever give pets "people" names or always pet-type names (Rover, Spot, Fluffy, etc)?

I was the kid who spent a week coming up with a new name for each stuffed animal, but that doesn't mean I have the best taste. I've had a fish named Swimmy, rats named Snuggles, Pirate, & Zozo, and cats named Rollo, Mumford and Tavvi. No real names.

    * Apologies, in advance, for anyone considering the names Rover, Spot or Fluffy for their next child. :-)

  • Yes, one of my dogs has a middle name.  Stella Blue.  The other one, Hazel, does not.

I like people names for dogs, obviously (Stella and Hazel).

My family members' past and present dogs are a mix of people names and pet names;  Cinder, Nugget, Lucy (a.k.a. Loose Lucy), Maggie (Sugar Magnolia), Sunny (Sunshine Daydream), Ruby, and Blitz.
