Babywearing in Queens

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to babywearing and everything AP in general as my daughter is only 12 weeks old.  I used mainly the Moby for the first few weeks and now I use a sling and sometimes the Ergo.  I am looking into getting a mei tai and a woven wrap to add to my collection as well.  I am not too smooth using the ring sling at all especially breastfeeding in it and I could use some pointers about babywearing/AP in general.  Anybody know of any meetings or support groups geared toward this in Queens?  I'm close to Brooklyn, too and I am willing to travel to certains areas of Manhattan.  TIA!

  • Try Metro Minis at 75th and Park on the UES - it's a store that specializes in carriers and slings and they also offer classes.

Ditto pp's recommendation of Metro Minis. They are awesome with practical carrier advice, even if you're not buying something they have in stock. I took a sling I already owned in to them to get help with how to tie it for hip-wearing. I looove them.

Another great resource used to be Stork Store in Williamsburg, but sadly, the owner closed up shop about a year or so ago.

I found some great mamas in my own neighborhood just by joining our neighborhood list serve. I found out who was more or less AP as time went on, but I think that living in an urban environment, even people who don't call themselves AP end up babywearing and bedsharing (especially in tiny apartments), for example, for the convenience.
