Anyone still breastfeeding?

Do you plan to wean now that you are pregnant?

Re: Anyone still breastfeeding?

  • Hi Sept. mama!!

I am still nursing DS.  Most days he nurses just mornings and evenings.  When I saw my dr a couple of months ago to discuss us ttc, she asked if I was still nursing.  I told her that I wanted to get to a year and then just see how it went after that.  She said she would advise me to wean DS once I am pregnant because it is harder on the mother.

I would like to continue nursing DS for as long as I can do it.  At times it is a little painful since becoming pregnant.

  • I am still nursing but in the process of weaning, as of today I am down to just one feeding a day.  My dr also recommended weaning because he said it's to hard to keep up with caloric intake.

  • i am still nursing my 9 month babe, and plan to get to a year and then keep our morning feed for as long as he likes.  i havent seen my doc yet, so i have no idea what she will recommend.  as long as it doesnt put the new babe at risk to keep breastfeeding, i will eat as much as i have to in order to keep it up Wink  i am already noticing a dip in my supply, so i have been eating and pumping as much as possible.
  • I'm still breastfeeding (7 times a day)! I'd love to make it to a year, and then do morning/evening as long as she wants. That being said, I don't want to nurse 2 children at once, so I would like her to wean before this one comes.

We had a couple rough days this week (maybe a different taste?) where she didn't want to nurse at all. The problem is that then she wakes up several times a night to nurse. I might have to supplement with some formula during the day to up her calorie intake (hoping she will STTN soon). I have been SO hungry!

  • I was with my second pregnancy.  Check out kellymom.com, there is some good info on there about nursing while pregnant.  If your dr disciurages it (mine did), it was helpful for me to be well prepared when we discussed it.  FWIW I nursed my dd for 4 months while pregant and then she quit on her own.

It's so fun to have some familiar faces around here! :)

I'm still nursing for the time being but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to keep up. My original plan was to wean after a year anyway. Then I got to a year and didn't really see a need to stop. And THEN I got my BFP so now I guess my new plan is to nurse as long as I can. The only reason I wanted to wean at a year in the first place was to have my body back to myself for a little while. But since I'm pregnant that's not happening anytime soon anyway!

  • I nursed with #1 until he quit on my at 13mo.  I coaxed #2 to hang on until 18mo--she never noticed when I stopped offering!  I would not have quit just because I got pregnant.

  • I'm trying to make it to at least a year with G. He's still nursing all the time (at least 4-5x daily & 2 at night) & won't take a bottle. I guess he'd probably take one if I dried completely up, but he adamantly refuses now.

Anyway, not planning on weaning him at all. If he stops nursing then fine, not much I can do about that. I wasn't really down with tandem nursing until I actually met a couple of women who had done it. Now I'm better educated & realize it can be done.

  • I am! No plans for weaning as of now. I'm waiting to see how it goes and trying to decide how I feel about tandem nursing. I won't actively do anything until January at the earliest.

  • I'm still nursing my 33 month old and just found out I am pregnant.  I'm not sure how I feel about tandem nursing yet (leaning a bit more towards doing it), but I figure I have some time to read and do some research as well.  I've heard lots of great things about the book "Adventures in Tandem Nursing", so I plan to start there and take DD's lead.
  • I am still bf once/day. I think dd is getting ready to self-wean. She has refused twice this week. I read somewhere that the consistency of the milk changes when you are pg, but I don't think that happens until much, much later. I'm thinking it's more of a developmental thing than related to the pg (particularly since it's SO early).  I struggled very much in the beginning, so it's a dream that I'm still bf at 17 months. My plan is (was) to let her self-wean whenever she is ready.
