Same idea, but the AbdoMend is meant for c-sections specifically, and from what I can tell, the AbdoMend looks better to me. I had a BellyBandit and hated it. I found the sizing really confusing, and it didn't fit right away, but then was huge pretty soon (so it had a very limited timeframe). I also didn't really like the velcro-- it was hard to get it exactly tight enough. I'm likely going to order the AbdoMend this time.
I purchased both (the abdomend and the bamboo belly bandit). In my opinion, the abdomend was much much better for my c-section. I could wear it by the next day, it is super soft against your skin (much much more comfortable and supportive than the belly bandit), it never lost its shape, and you can shrink it in the wash when you get smaller. The belly bandit I wouldn't dare put on my skin right away, is much more stiff, and I do not think was designed for c-sections.
Get the Abdomend - I was down 19lbs by my 2 week checkup - and it definitely helped with the pain of getting in and out of bed.

abdomend I hear is the best! I've seen it in person and it looks really soft!
The one from the hospital is not bad, if you don't want to buy another, but it is stiffer, and you need to ask for two. The size you are after delivery and a smaller one for when you lose weight!
I had a c-section in July. I used the $5 Gold's gym band sold at Wal-Mart as suggested by my OB and midwife and it worked great! I was very fit with a very flat tummy prior to pregnancy and even with diastisis, a ten pound baby and a 40 pound weight gain, my tummy looks pretty darn good! Everyone says, oh my god, there is no way you had a baby 5 weeks ago! So I highly recommend it. No sizing and it is not bulky so you can easily wear it discretely underneath shirts.

Did you get the waist trimmer? I am looking it up online. Is it this one you used?
