TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

anyone else not loving the new fb posts for breast cancer awareness - ?

Have you seen any of these yet?  The posts that say "I'm [insert number] weeks pregnant and craving [insert candy]."  At first I thought this girl I graduated hs with was really pregnant.  Then I saw another and know something was up.  I just learned yesterday that they are the latest breast cancer awareness campaign (like the previous year posts on bra color and purse location).

I am all for breast cancer awareness - I am just not seeing how this particular idea (fake pregnancy announcement) does it.  It is hurtful to me to read all of these fake announcements when I may never have the chance to post that I am so many weeks pregnant.  I mean, yes, I have been pregnant, but it doesn't seem to last and therefore I wouldn't be posting about it until I was very far along.

Maybe I am just being overly sensitive, but when I think of all the women who suffer from infertility and pregnancy loss (myself included) it just upsets me that other people feel announcing pregnancy is something to joke about.  And I just don't see how it raises breast cancer awareness.  The others didn't either (bra color, purse location), but they were harmless at least.

Just my 2 cents.  Hope I haven't offended anyone.  Again, I am for breast cancer awareness, just not this way to promote it.

  • Yeah, I've been posting bitchy status updates about it for the last several days.  These fvcktards posting it are pissing me off.  I've started deleting people for it.

  • It's horribly insesnitive. Why can't people just post "support the fight against breast cancer" or, you know, actually donate money?

  • I liked the point that someone on the IF board made: A huge number of people with breast cancer will be rendered infertile afterward because of their chemo treatments. How the heck is that supposed to be supportive of them or their cause in any way? Rubbing in their faces that you are (or can) experience something they will never be able to? Rude.
  • Its so stupid-just as pointless as the "bra color" fb status or "where you like your purse"....but this time it's actually insensitive and could be hurtful. For the life of me o cant figure out how these dumb fb status' are actually supposed to help raise awareness of breast cancer.

  • Those are great blog posts, I especially like the 2nd one and the status she posted.

Another friend of mine linked this one and I did as well:

  • I saw that on quite a few of my friends posts, and to be honest, I HATE THEM!  I have a hard enough time dealing with when people are really PG and now on top of it having to see "fake" posts.  I have to think that there is a better way to promote Breast Cancer Awareness than this.

  • I thought I was alone with this feelings also, until I talked to a few other bumpies.  My stomach drops every time I read one, I just start thinking: "Great another person having a baby before me", even though I know that is not what they are posting.

    It's stupid IMO.

  • Luckily, I haven't seen this making its way around my facebook, but I'm sure it's coming. I don't think you're being overly sensitive - I think those posts are in poor taste and don't do anything to raise awareness.

  • I think they are ridiculous!  My aunt sent me an 'invite' via PM to participate so I responded by posting a link to a blog that explained why this game is not only hurtful to people dealing with loss and IF but also to people with breast cancer.

IMHO, I think it's insane that we'd want to keep awareness AWAY from men.  Last time I checked, men are very susceptible to breast cancer AND it's already taboo enough as it is to discuss that, why would you leave out half the earth's population especially when they ARE affected by it personally (either by having breast cancer or knowing a loved one with it)?
