Cloth Diapering Mamas... detergent?

Hi ladies!

I'm sorry to say that (while I have spent lots of time on other baby boards) I haven't been here to the local board to say HELLO!  So, firstly, hi!

Secondly, I'm about to start CDing with my toddler and my 4 month old.  CD friends have advised that I ask local moms what detergent you think works best with our water here in terms of laundering CDs.  (I plan on using AIO's and pockets, if that makes any difference in your suggestions.)

Thank you!

Re: Cloth Diapering Mamas... detergent?

  • We use liquid Planet for all of our laundry. I have been using Bum Genius for just over 3 years now and I have no stink issues and I never have had to strip them. I use just enough detergent to fill the cap halfway to the 0 mark - so very little detergent.

  • I use ECOS free and clear. I'm way down south though and my water is different. I have had no problems so far, and I have to use very little of it for my cloth. It's also made locally, which is another reason I like buying it. I use prefolds and covers and I have 1 AIO that has had no issues.

  • Another vote for Planet. I started off using another brand and ended up with stink and had to strip. Pinktulips turned me on to Planet, actually! :)

  • I liked Rockin' Green but DD ended up with a sensitivity to one of the scents, so I switched to Country Save powder.  I like both for keeping them stink-free (although they're due for a strip now, but we've made it almost a year in her OS dipes so not bad!)

  • We started with Charlie's and it worked well using very little detergent. I switched to RnG because I found it for cheaper. It works well too, but I have to use more of it.
  • We've also been using liquid Planet, but I might try Tiny Bubbles next, just because it's a good deal.  I'm glad you posted, because we're about to run out and I need some more!

  • We use Country Save here for all CDs and clothes.  We only had to strip diapers after we had to use some antibiotic ointments.

  • We started off with Rockin' Green but recently switched to Country Save which has worked out really well for us.  (oh, and we have a FL'er if that matters)

  • We use Biokleen liquid. Works great, you just have to remember to use 1/4 the amount that you would normally use.

  • I'm in Olympia, but we've been using Country Save for 7+ months... haven't had a problem so far. Happy diapering! We used disposables for the first two months and I'm so happy we made the switch.
  • I use Kirkland All Free and Clear from Costco. Works for us Smile

  • Another Country Save fan here.  There's a website that rates the various detergents for use with cloth diapers.  I don't have it at my fingertips though.  Sorry!
