All wrapped up

Wrap vs. other baby sacks.  Do any of you plan on using a wrap or another sack to hold your baby in? Are they even worth it? If you have one or plan on having one which is better a wrap style or a backpack style? Also will you wait until they get a little older or use it even as a newborn with the insert? TIA

Re: All wrapped up

  • I don't have anything to baby wear. i'm not opposed to it, just haven't made the purchase. But I know a lot of other moms enjoy them when their babies are being fussy butthey need to be able to get around and get stuff done.

  • There's a post a few down about the Moby. I've used it a handful of times and found it really handy- comfortable and easy to use. Gabe loves it! My sister used her moby exclusively (she never had an infant carrier and rarely used a stroller) and loved it.

  • I used a ring sling with DS and loved it... I used it from birth on, and I always felt pretty secure using it.  I was gifted a Moby Wrap this time around, and I'm super excited to use it, although they don't have as long of a lifespan as a sling (I could still wear my 3 yo in the ringsling, if I wanted).

You mentioned sacks (I think...?)- if you're referring to the bag slings, please don't get one of those.  They've been recalled, and they're really not safe... whatever you get, it should keep the baby high enough that you can kiss LO's head.  :)

  • No personal testimony yet, but I went with the Moby and the Ergo. A friend said she loved the Moby for early on and then the Ergo for after the baby got a little bigger. I've heard a lot of praise for both from other people on the net.

  • I have a Baby Bjorn and an Infantino sling from when DS1 was a baby. We liked the BB from when he was able to face outward (about 4 months?) until he hit 20 lbs (9 or 10 months). I used the sling as a hip carrier once DS1 could sit up on his own. He loved that, and sometimes it was more convenient for me than having him in front of me in the BB. He didn't like the BB when he was very young, and the sling didn't provide adequate head support - he couldn't breathe. I got about 4.5 yards of fabric, and cut a 20" strip off the side, to use as a wrap for this LO. I think it will be better those first few months.

  • I have a Moby wrap, which is absolutely awesome for the early newborn days.  I used it some with DD#1 but I anticipate using it a lot more this time around.  We also recently bought an Ergo.  I haven't used it but DH used it with our 3.5 year old and really liked it.
