NT results in-CVS? Thoughts

Hi ladies. I was going to get a CVS Friday. However, I got my NT results and for ds my risk is 1-2206 and tri 1-6541, neck measured 1.2. I know its a personal choice, but what are your thoughts? I am leaning towards not doing it now since the odds of mc outweigh my risk. I will be 37 when I give birth.

Thank you so much!

  • With those odds I wouldn?t do it.  What is your reasons behind CVS?  That maybe what drives your final choice.

  • Our reason was to find out if there could be genetic issues, though we dont have any in either of our families. The NT and labs arent 100%, but I would hope with these numbers they couldnt be that off. Its a hard choice!

  • My results for ds was 1:5200 and tri 18 was 1:5100.  With those numbers I am comfortable not having any further testing done.  I'm 37 and will still be 37 when LO is born.

  • Is that the first set of blood work or the second? I personally didn't want to do any invasive testing unless my non invasive showed us real reason. If my doctor didn't suggest a next level of testing I was not going to do it. However everyone needs to do for them what they are comfortable with.

  • I had the same plan- Do the screening, then go for CVS if I wasn't happy with screening results. Turns out, I was not happy with screening results, I had a 1:5 for Down's so I did the CVS and everything looks fine. If I had your NT screening results I would not have done the CVS.  Remember the screening is designed to catch more than it misses, therefore there are a lot of false positives, but not so many false negatives.

  • I personally wouldn't... I had 1 in 1200 and decided against anymore testing.

  • I would not feel any need to proceed with a CVS if those were my numbers, and I was 37.  I was 37 with my first pregnancy, and had similar results - I did not do CVS or amnio, because I thought my numbers were favorable enough to trust that all was OK.

  • I'm 40 and if I had those numbers, I wouldn't do the CVS.  At this point, this time around we will do the NT scan and that will likely be it,unless the dr suggests further testing.

  • Those numbers look really good.  I also had very low risk numbers with my NT scan and chose not to do anymore testing.

My main reason for wanting more invasive testing if the NT numbers came back high risk was based on quality of life issues outside of the womb.  If there was a chance of DS I would want to know right away to have the earliest of interventions, prepare myself and family, etc....if it was a trisomy issue, that would have been a entirely different matter.
