Parenting after a Loss

If money was no object

would you stay at home AND have a nanny? Why?

Me: no, but I would have a mother's helper, like nanny lite. I love SAHM with DS and I love being with him all the time, though a little break here and there is nice, hence the mother's helper.

I would totes have a housekeeper though.

  • I would have a housekeeper for sure. When DH is deployed I would also hire a cook. I hate cooking he loves it. No nanny. I am happy to take care of her. Although I would like to have someone watch her a few hours every now and then so I could get my hair cut or get a pedi.

  • Nah I wouldn't.

Though a couple of nights that DD was up every hour I wanted a night nanny. Like I was swearing to my DH I was going to get one.

  • I wouldn't. If I had multiples or more children I could see how it might be helpful though.

I would have a housekeeper for sure though.

  • I was a nanny for a SAHM of 3 boys. They where 4, 3, and 3 months. We really shared the kids. Her doing 'big kid' stuff while I had the baby or me taking the boys out while she stayed home with a napping newborn. And then there were times where she would go to lunch, pilates, pedi...etc and I would have all 3 boys.

I would if it was like that.

  • Yes.

Let me be clear:  I have 3 kids.  I'd get a nanny for about 20 hours a week so I could spend 1 on 1 time with the kids.  They LOVELOVELOVE it.  And so do I.  Also, I work, and it'd be really really nice to be able to work without 17 interruptions per hour.

  • I wouldn't stay home...

This. I would love to not work, but at the same time, I almost lose my sh!t some weekends when DD is extra crabby because DH works and I'm all alone. I don't think I could do it FT. Flame away Wink

  • I wouldn't stay home, I'd work part time, 2 or 3 days a week, have a house keeper come through maybe twice a week, and have a nanny cover my days at work plus one afternoon so I could shop, sleep, pamper, and/or work out (read: tennis match, long bike ride).

    OMG HOW DARE YOU!

    lol.

There's nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't mind working PT but I can't find anything that pays more than $10 and I'd spend half my wage on child care.
