Convertible car seat help

Lurking from 3-6 here, but DS is a big boy and I'm trying to find a convertible car seat as he will be out of his infant one soon.

Anyone have any recommendations? I don't want to have to buy another one after this and the doctor told me they have to be rear facing until they are 2. I was looking at the Graco Nautilus but that doesn't have the rear facing option. I'd like one that can rear face as well as forward face.

TIA!!

Re: Convertible car seat help

  • Pretty much all convertible carseats are both RF and FF.

We have the Evenflo Triumph Advance and they work great RF.

  • we have two britax seats the round about 50 and the boulevard 70...after using the roundabout 50 for a while (we just got it 3 weeks ago but have had the boulevard 70 for months) I would if I could ditch the roundabout and get another boulevard!! I love the options that it has and the comfort level is much higher. The head wings offer much more head protection and the seat itself is much deeper.

comfort, deepness of the seat, options, these are all things that you really want to think about when investing in a seat you will use for awhile. our lo is very small so both seats will last us until well after her 2nd birthday but the round about 50 is rear facing until 35 while the boulevard is 40 and the roundabout ff to 50 while the boulevard ff to 70lbs!!

I love my Britax seats. I have 2 Marathons and a Roundabout 50. I love them equally. Actually, I might like the RA 50 more, because it has an adjustable crotch strap, which might be important as DS grows.

Honestly, the weight limit doesn't matter that much unless you are going to have a short obese kid. No child will reach 50lbs, 65lbs or 70lbs in a convertible seat. They will likely outgrow it by height first. My DD is 3 1/2 on is currently on the 2nd strap setting on her Marathon (there are 4 settings, I believe). The seat might actually expire before my DD outgrows it.

  • I have a Britax Boulevard and an Evenflo Triumph and after a few months of use, I much prefer the Evenflo. I think it was the only convertible to get the highest crash test rating in consumer reports. Britax is right behind it, though.

I have a Graco MyRide 65 and an Evenflo Triumph and I prefer the Evenflo too, so user friendly.

  • Sunshine Radian Kids 100%. FAA approved, has a carrying case, seat folds up for traveling (so if you use that carryign cas eyou can pack more in the bag). It is a little heavier than others, but that's because it has more steel reinforcement. NARROW!!!

    We LOVE it.
