Pregnant after IF

Anyone experience panic attacks?

I believe that this is what is going on with me.  I get nervous when I feel weak and faint after I have been standing for a while (the almost fainting episodes), and start to have a panic attack.  I freak out when I am having a hard time catching my breath and then I get nervous about passing out.  I just had another one, induced by 1 cup of coffee and the heat....because I am having a hard time catching my breath.  I've always had an anxiety problem, and never had these feelings of panic before pregnancy.

  • Oh, sweetie, I am so sorry, that sounds scary. Unfortunately, I can't help you with any info, since I have not experienced this. Have you tried some meditation (like Anji, or something like that). I've found a good app I use from time to time and helps keep me in check. Let me know if this is something you would like to try. (((hugs))), I hope this gets better soon.

  • Yes.  I used to get them in college.  They are definitely no fun.  I am sorry you are going through this.  Sometimes a change of scenery would do me the most good.  Try going for a short walk and just focus on the little things you see, while trying to calm your breathing.  Other times just talking it out helped.  If you need anything, let me know.  Like I said, I know how out of control and helpless it feels.  ((HUGE HUGS))

  • I hope you don't mind me chiming in. I have been having problems recently and couldn't figure out why I would feel dizzy or faint or get really flushed all of the sudden. I thought I was fine but when I saw a therapist recently she recommended any activity that requires me to focus on my breathing. Activities like yoga, walking, or swimming. I also have a little fan in my purse that helps cool me down and takes my focus off the fact that I am close to passing out, it calms me down quickly. I had no idea that I was having anxiety! But now that I know what to do, I haven't had any issues.

  • i have not been having panic attacks, but i have extreme shortness of breath. i am ok in the mornings but come late afternoon and on i can barely get a good deep breath in. freaks me out. i talked to my dr and she said it was normal since i am carrying small and tight my lungs are not expanding o their full capacity. i find that my yoga in the mornings help a ton. maybe try that?

    hope you feel better. ((HUGS))

  • I have anxiety issues as well, and feeling like I can't breathe can set me off into a panic attack. Thankfully so far in this pregnancy I've been ok (I used to used meds to treat an attack if it got bad, but they aren't recommended for use in pregnancy). I know this is going to sound stupid, but try to avoid situations that might cause you to feel like you can't breathe, so that you don't get to the point of panicking. If you do end up panicking, try to reassure yourself that you are breathing just fine, even if it doesn't feel that way. And, tell yourself that if you really, truly feel like you can't breathe, you can always go to the dr/hospital-somehow this talking/reassuring to myself can usually calm me down.
