Mom (not MIL for once!) Vent (long)

For once, it's my mom who's behaving badly and honestly, this $hit takes the proverbial cake, as they say. So, DH and I's 2nd anniversary is Tuesday and DH started planning a special day for to spend together, sans boys, since his grandmother had offered to take care of them for us. Then, my mom OFFERS to watch them for us so she can spend some time with them. I told her THIS IS ON A TUESDAY AFTER A HOLIDAY. I told her it was an all-day thing. I asked her if she was OK taking a day off work to do this. She said yes. This was 2 months ago.

Fast forward to today. She informs me she thought we'd be dropping them off at 6PM. WTF? Their bedtime is between 9 and 9:30 and it takes us a half hour to get home from her place. She seriously freaking thought we'd want her to watch the boys for 2 hours?! She hasn't taken off work and my stepdad scheduled a steroid shot for his back that morning. I now have to scramble to find a sitter for Tuesday now or DH has to cancel whatever surprise reservations he made (I know he made reservations somewhere, he just won't tell me where as it's supposed to be a surprise).

I'm so freaking hurt right now. I mean, who OFFERS to watch someone's kids and bails at the last minute claiming YOU NEVER TOLD THEM WHAT YOU REALLY NEEDED? I get annoyed when MIL claims she wants to watch the boys but never ends up taking them, but at least she doesn't plan on taking them and bail at the last minute.

And the half-a$$ed apology she gave me (i.e. her exasperated "Well, I'm sorry, you told me 6 in the evening.") just ices this bull$hit pie. I seriously hate my mother right now. Sorry, I just had to get this off my chest.

  • I hate in general when people just do not listen. then they assume details instead of calling and asking. I would be irritated with your mom right now too.

hopefully you can find someone that will watch the babies so you can go out for your anniversary.

this is totally something my mother would twist around but then again my mother would never offer to watch our little girl. my mom is 80 but even if she was younger I do not think she would.

    good luck...
