Re: Who here has had an amnio?

  • I did.No complications at all.And I got a gender reveal/confirmation right away, at 16 weeks:)

Good luck.Just take it easy afterwards, and drink lots of water.

  • I've had one with each baby. No complications, didn't hurt and big sigh of relief that everything was in order. And of course good to know the baby's sex for sure.

  • I did, no complications (but my perinatologist had me take Zithromax before and after).  Mine did hurt, both the needle going in, and sore for about a day after, but it was very worth it to both know for sure we are having a boy, and to rule out some pretty big birth defects.  The worst of it for me was the complete bed and pelvic rest afterwards - I was going stir crazy!!

  • We're not finding out the gender, but I do want it done due to my age in spite of the fact that the NT and blood work and other ultrasounds all point to everything being OK.  I just feel like I won't really relax unless I KNOW that all is well in there!  I'm not nervous about the procedure itself really, but admit to being a bit paranoid of any complications - I wish it was virtually risk-free!  Two more days...  Thanks!

  • I had one with my first pg. The needle hurt a little more than I had expected it would. No complications, though.
First birth: Natural (med-free) Second birth: Hell, no. Epidural all the way. Pregnancy Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I have had a CVS with Millie and an amnio with Margaux.  No complications with either.  Good luck!

  • My amnio is scheduled for Thursday - I find that the more I read online the better I feel that the procedure will go well.  Thanks to everyone who is sharing -
  • OK, done.  The needle did hurt more than I thought and then the fluid-draw was such a strange and really uncomfortable feeling.  My husband said my right foot was shaking back & forth the whole procedure.  I wasn't expecting the "relax your stomach muscles" though...um, you just stuck a needle through my skin, muscle and an organ ...they tightened automatically!   I think to "relax my muscles" I shook my foot?!  Lol.   The procedure was so fast ...which is a good thing!  Resting comfortably with minimal crampiness.  She did tell me to stay home for 48 hours (I had thought it was 24 hrs and hope my boss isn't upset that I'm supposed to stay put tomorrow too!).  The dr ordered fish results, so we'll have solid answers within 2 days.  Looking forward to exhaling!

Thanks again to all who shared!
