Some of you may recall that I was offered a job working in an inner city school. Well Monday was the first day of school and i happy to report that I survived it!
Here a little tidbit of what I have dealt with
- I am teaching a grade 1/2 multi-age classroom, but really the kids are more like pre-K-K. They can't read AT ALL, can barely cut or color, can't sit still for more then 1 minute and are constantly touching/pestering eachother.
I have had to teach them how to use supplies, including listening for the "click" when the marker caps and glue stick caps get put back on .
Many of them came to school with very few supplies and the ones that did came with a pencil box of mismatched supplies like old colored pencils, a few crayons and an old glue stick.
They are loud, and I have to act like a drill seargent just to get the to walk down the hallway quietly (think Kindergarten Cop).........
But, i have gotten lots of hugs and the kids really, really want to learn. I am excited for what the year is going to bring, and although at the end of the day I am completely exhausted, everyday I am completely rewarded.
Re: I survived my first week at my new school
