Cloth Diapering

Thinking about CD'ing

I'm thinking about starting to CD but am so new to this and don't know anybody IRL who does it. I'm a little confused by it all. Like, if I bought this:

what exactly is it? Is this the outer part (I don't even know what it's called, but the waterproof part) and the inner, absorbent part? And would you just buy more of the inserts and reuse the blue part?

Also, any suggestions for most like a disposable in terms of ease of use? My husband is not really on board with this because he thinks it will be a lot more work so I want something that is really easy and convenient for him (well, both of us) to use.

  • Bumgenius one size diapers are pocket diapers.  You stuff them with a microfiber insert and use once, then the whole thing goes in the laundry.  If you want something that you can use with cloth and disposable inserts, I like the flip brand, by the makers of the bumgenius.

  • The diaper you posted a link to is called an "all in one" meaning that it is both the waterproof cover and inner absorbent part.  The Bum Genius 3.0s (the ones you posted) also have a "pocket" where you can add extra absorbancy if your LO is a heavy wetter.  However, the diaper can be used as if without altering/adding to it.  Once your LO pees or poops in that diaper you change the whole diaper.  It's very similar to a disposable in that respect.  About 1/3 of our stash is 3.0s.  I love them and unless I leave LO in there too long (and she pees out of it) we never have leaks.  The aplix (velcro) does get a litttle dingy/pilly though.

  • Ditto the pps. Also check the FAQ at the top of the board. It may help.

Something like the BG is most like a disposable. Especially with the Velcro tabs instead of snaps.

  • Check out the FAQs at the top of the board. I would also recommend doing a trial (one that comes highly recommended is from Jillian's Drawers) so you can get a sense of how involved CDing is (it's not as involved as it seems) and figure out what style and brand of diapers work for you.

  • I like this seller on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/U-PICK-AIO-BABY-CLOTH-DIAPER-1-SIZE-FITS-ALL-INSERT-/320571313696?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa38a0e20

they are cheap, cute, but the shipping takes a long time. My husband loves them. We tried pre-folds with pocket diapers before this and that was difficult to use. This one anyone can use.
