Do you ever pre-fill the bottles with water and then mix with formula when you need them?
I have only been using these bottle for about 5 days. I only picked up 2 to try out since DD seemed to be having gas issues. Since I only have 2 I have to wash them every other feeding and then I fill them both with water for the next feeding. This morning when I opened one of the bottles to add formula, the little beige ring thing that you put the straw into (sorry, I don't know if there are proper names for these pieces ;p ) had black mold on it! I couldn't believe it and it made me wonder if any of the other bottles I've prepared had it and I didn't notice it. I'm guessing it happened because I had just washed the parts with hot water and then put them together and closed them up still wet and then left them over night?
With our previous bottles I would fill them all with water at night for the next day and never had any issues. Of course there weren't all these crazy parts involved... So I guess I'm just wondering if it's a known no-no to pre-fill these bottles?
Re: ? for Dr. Browns users...
I don"t pre fill my but I used Dr. Browns for 1 year with DD and am now using the same bottles for DS and I've never seen mold on anything. Make sure you are scrubbing them well and letting them air dry on a bottle rack. I have never run mine through the dishwasher either.
ETA: With DD I did premake them and put them in the fridge for the following day, but it had the formula mixed, but still I never had mold.
So weird... I think maybe it was just because I had just washed them in hot water and put them together and closed them up still wet and hot. That's all I can figure. I decided to just not pre-fill them until I have more and can allow them to dry first.
Thanks for all the responses.
