Potty Training

Attempting 3-day PTing this weekend

Anyone else? I'm nervous... I want it to work so badly, but I'm so pessimistic at the same time. We haven't made any plans the entire weekend so we can focus solely on PTing... starting tomorrow. Eek!

Re: Attempting 3-day PTing this weekend

  • We started potty training last week but our are a little younger so I kinda knew it was going to take longer then 3 days. I did have a couple of things I learned though that might be helpful. Going barebottom at least the first dy or two might be helpful. It gets them learning the feeling "of needing to go". Yes it is messy but then again so is trying them in underwear. It also allows them to get to the potty quicker. Treats work great! I would give them a piece of fruit if they would sit on the potty and "try" to go every 15-30 mins (they love fruit), and if they went in their potty they would get a gummy bear (it is their coveted rare treat). I found doing this really helped them get the idea.

There is also a method called "one day potty training". It is pretty intense and a lot of work but it is supposed to work well with toddlers 2 and older. I didn't do it so I can't tell you much about it.

Good luck and hope it goes well! Just have patients and keep trying.

  • I too, have been planning to do the 3-day method this weekend.  Today is day one.  It's currently nap time for DD, so I'm here on the bump for a minute.

Hope it's going ok for you.  We've gone through 20 pairs of panties just this morning.

  • So Day 1 (Friday) was pretty rough - no pee or poo in the potty, not even once. I went to bed 30 minutes after DS because I was so beat and wiped out from the day. Thank goodness DH was home to help with making meals and all that. He caught on enough to the strategy that he was able to help out today, Day 2. It started out well, with a big pee in the potty right when he woke up this morning. But then I thought we were heading for the same sort of outcome as Day 1 after that... until he got up from his nap. I took him to the potty right away and voila, he pooped in the potty. Then we had 4 straight pees in the potty after that... two were completely led by him. I am thrilled that he's starting to catch on. I have my fingers crossed that our streak will continue through tomorrow. I was convinced DS would be that kid that didn't catch on until the end of day 3 (or even 4) but we are getting there I think.
