December 2011 Moms

is this appropriate

My husband and I have a wedding to go too next weekend. Its at 2 pm.

I went to look for a cute maternity dress today and I was really disappointed in the selections AND the prices for something I plan on only wearing once.

I have this black maxi dress that I got at Old Navy. Its cotton and I was thinking of wearing this ......I want to say cardigan but its not a cardigan....it doesn' t have buttons on it and it only has 3/4 sleeves.... Its kind of a dusty mauve color that I got at NY&CO last Spring. I figured that, with some strappy sandals, and nice jewelry would work.

What do you girls think? I absolutely hate it when people don't dress appropriately for special events so I don't want to be one of those people.

Re: is this appropriate

  • I think that works. I would pair a summery necklace with it probably, to liven it up a bit.

  • I think that would be fine, like you said just dress it up a little with accessories.  I have a wedding to go to in two weeks and I am thinking the same thing-I have a cotton black maternity dress that is SO comfy, and I might just wear it with a sweater/cardigan.

  • Im figuring I won't be judged too hard since its obvious I'm pregnant and its been 100+ degrees out for the last 4 months.... Its not like I'm showing up in plaid pajama pants and a stained Coors shirt with the sleeves cut off. (If you're wondering, someone wore this exact ensemble at a friend's wedding)

  • Sounds good to me unless it's a formal crowd. I just wore a black sundress and flip flops to my friend's wedding today, but it was in her dad's backyard.
Edited because I am an English teacher and that's what we do.

  • I think that is fine, just pair it with some nice accessories. Like you said it's really hot and you're pregnant, I'm sure you won't be judged.

  • It sounds just fine. Find some fun jewelry to wear with it to dress it up.

  • I think that would be absolutely fine. Especially with the way that you are dressing it up. Anyone who judges you would be rude back. There really are only so many maternity dresses out there.

  • I'd say to dress it up a bit with accessories, but if you're really concerned you can always call someone in the wedding party to get their take on the event's intended formality.

  • I think that will be fine.  I know at our wedding last summer 2 of our guests were pregnant and they were wearing black maxi dresses, they looked cute and not under dressed at all.
