Pregnant after IF

Crib bumpers

Are you using your crib bumpers? I was thinking that it's just too risky with the chance of suffocation and all, but it seems that some people still use them. I was shopping for bedding today with my Mom and she seems to think it's completely silly to not use them. They are really cute, but I'm still not sure how I feel about using them.

What will you be doing about bumpers?

We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And HOPE does not dissappoint.

Re: Crib bumpers

  • I'm not planning on using them - so, I will not be buying a bedding set. I'll just be going with crib sheets in the colors we want and I'll be making a crib skirt and curtains out of the same fabric.

  • i won't be using them - we bought window treatments and crib skirts in a pattern i liked, and we will be using just regular crib sheets in whatever colors.

  • I registered for a breathable bumper which we have. I I'd not purchase a bedding set because we received so many sheets and nice blankets from the shower. I do have a valance from lowes but no crib skirting yet that I like. Actually I put a sheet on our mattresses and literally had to take the mattress out to put the sheet on so I'm not sure how it would be with a bumper on
  • We will be using a breathable bumper, if anything.

  • Yes, we use them. Brady slept in our room until he was 5 1/2 months so by the time he moved to his crib, he had great head control and was crawling around so I wasn't worried.

  • I'm undecided.  I am planning on keeping baby in a co-sleeper attached to the side of our bed for the first few months, so by the time we make the transition to crib I might feel more comfortable with using them.  Not sure, I guess it will just depend on where baby is as far as rolling over, etc. at that point.

I will be following all of the other recommendations as far as SIDS goes (ceiling fan, back to sleep, temperature, etc) but that's the one that I might go against.  It seems to be more a suffocation risk than a SIDS risk anyway, so that's why it depends on where baby is for me to decide.

  • I am not buying or using bumpers.  I may do breathables, but they aren't really bumpers.

  • Lurking tonight, hope that's ok :-) We had regular bumpers that went with our crib bedding set in at first. I got freaked out the first morning I went into his room and found Vin's face smushed into the corner of the crib (babies always seem to like the security of being smushed into the corner, with pressure on the top of their heads). I went to BRU that day to buy a breathable bumper set and we've been using that since then.

He has great head control now and scoots around a lot, so I'm planning to put the regular bumpers back in soon. It will probably be in another month or so, so he will be around the same age as B was when ashonkwiler transitioned him to his crib.

  • I'm old fashioned and when my boys were little they not only used them but suggested you squish your child's head into the corner so of they to re-create a womb feeling.  So I'm going to use them but not intentionally squish the twins up against them.

If it has you worried though you don't really need them until they are older - they do help prevent arms and legs from getting through the slats when they are more mobile.
