What now?

DS2 was tested for gluten, wheat, barley, dairy, soy via blood earlier this week and they all came back negative.  We have been referred to a GI specialist because obviously something is going on so any ideas at what we might be facing?  Family history of dairy and lactose on DH's side and DH has CS.  On my side I had a brother who was soy intolerant as an infant but that is all.

have you tried a food diary?  did they test for the rest of the top 8 or is there a reason they only tested those 5?

what exactly are his symptoms? what did they test him for? How old is he?

Like pp said, start a food journal. Go on an elimination diet.  It could really be anything. Eat super basic.  Even eliminate spices and then slowly bring them back in. Anything goes.

GI is a great route so hopefully you get a quick appointment.  He also might be allergic to something really basic in your diet. No allergy surprises me anymore.  He can even have a sever allergy to a spice that is used daily -who knows. So it's good that you have an appointment with a GI.

    GOOD LUCK

We have the same problem.  We didn't even know there was an allergy (just eating problems) until an endoscopy was done (LO has eosinophilic espophagitis).  After that & meeting with the allergist, we found out that 25% of kids don't test positive through skin and/or blood tests.  So, we're having another endoscopy to see if eliminating everything worked.

Our LO is only 9 months old and eats primarily through a feeding tube so it wasn't very hard to eliminate everything but formula!

Our GI person has been great - hopefully you have a good experience with them.

We have a family history of CS (DH) and the reactions we would get are eczema and diarrhea after soy and dairy both.  For that reason we have avoided them and I would challenge every month or so and it would take about 5 days or more to get back to normal again.  His diet is primarily fish/chicken, rice, fruit, veg, organic oatmeal, rice milk and some GF breads and pastas.  Everything has to be pretty much homemade, processed stuff sends his system crazy.  Our appointment with the GI specialist is in 2 weeks, hope to get more answers then I hate being in limbo :(

ETA DS2 is 2yrs 6 mo old.  This has been ongoing since he started solids.
