3D ultrasound kinda creepy?

Well that's what my hubby thinks! He said he is not really into it but I really want a gender scan at 16 weeks! I'm so impatient.

Re: 3D ultrasound kinda creepy?

  • We got three 3-D ultrasounds at our NT scan.  We think they are pretty cool, but my mom and aunt think that they are creepy!

  • At 16 weeks they do look creepy but later they are better. We had one at 16 weeks and 32 with DD.

  • Yah I was reading that at 26 weeks they don't have any fat so they don't look as good.

  • I think early on, yes, they're creepy. Later in the pregnancy when baby is bigger/more fattened up/cuter in general (YKWIM!!) they can be great pics. H refuses to pay the extra for 3D/4D, which sucks.

  • We got to see our little guy at our NT scan in 3D.  This early in the game they have a decidedly alien look since they have NO baby fat yet but we still enjoyed it.  We never got to see DD via 3D as I had an anterior placenta with her.  I'm so stoked to have a posterior placenta.

  • I agree with your DH, they are creepy.  I haven't seen any later ones that may look more normal though.

Oh no if you have an anterior placenta you can't get 3d pictures?

If they can see 'around' the placenta you can.  All we could see was her knee and a little bit of foot.  The way regular u/s waves go they can get through the placenta no problem but for a 3D the waves go more like a web so you see the placenta NOT through it :-(

  • I am in the creepy camp. I would rather spend the money on newborn photos than these... (But if you can do both, go for it!)

  • I think they are the best around 28 weeks! Our 3D/4D with DS looked exactly like him!

  • We did the 3/4d ultrasound with my daughter and my hubby thought the same thing. This time we are going at 17 weeks, the doctor says you need to be at least 17 weeks there to find out the gender. But were just going with a 2d one this time. They are cheaper, and my husband won't be creeped out!LoL

  • My husband said same thing when seeing other peoples, last week though he asked if we were going to get one....So now he is excited, he said its still pretty weird but its also "pretty good, pretty neat"(he says pretty neat when he loves thinks something is awesome)

  • Early on, yes they're creepy.  They don't have any fat in their cheeks, etc...  so tiny babies look almost alien.

That said, I had one at 28 weeks with DS and LOVED it.  It is truly amazing how real he looked, and it really helped us to "know" what he looked like.  I plan on doing it again with this pregnancy...  my OB's office offers it for ~$75.

  • All the ones I've seen have a bit of that alien feel to them, but I did see a baby shower invitation with a 3d pic of the baby, along with her name. It was an interesting idea, to be able to see the baby you were celebrating. It was as if the invitation introduced the baby.
  • I definitely think they are creepy.  Before I was pregnant, I never thought I would want one.  Now I just want to have an earlier scan to determine the sex, so I'm seriously considering it now.
  • I vote creepy, I like the non-3d ultrasound pictures much more, not as creepy later in the pregnancy, but creepy this far along

I had an anterior placenta and were able to get 3D pics.  Sometimes depending on where DS was laying it would get in the way.
