Well that's what my hubby thinks! He said he is not really into
it but I really want a gender scan at 16 weeks! I'm so impatient.

If they can see 'around' the placenta you can. All we could see was her knee and a little bit of foot. The way regular u/s waves go they can get through the placenta no problem but for a 3D the waves go more like a web so you see the placenta NOT through it :-(
Early on, yes they're creepy. They don't have any fat in their cheeks, etc... so tiny babies look almost alien.
That said, I had one at 28 weeks with DS and LOVED it. It is truly amazing how real he looked, and it really helped us to "know" what he looked like. I plan on doing it again with this pregnancy... my OB's office offers it for ~$75.

I had an anterior placenta and were able to get 3D pics. Sometimes depending on where DS was laying it would get in the way.
