DH decided to do CIO on his own!

I don't usually come on here to complain, but I am livid right now!

I go to the gym for ONE MEASLY HOUR and come home and he told me he tried to do CIO to get DD to go to bed without her binky. He let her cry for 25 minutes before going in and giving it to her.

I am not against CIO, but if we are going to do it then DD needs to be developmentally ready and I have to do my research on the topic. I don't know why he just randomly thought to try it on his own. Consistency is key and right now I don't know enough about it to be comfortable trying it.

DH is generally a good father, but I think he's just beyond frustrated right now with the lack of sleep (last night was bad! She was up for her binky over 10 times). I'm just angry that he didn't even consult me and went to do this on his own, especially when he knows how I feel about it.

Re: DH decided to do CIO on his own!

  • Wow, I'd have been pretty upset.  Even if you were intending to start CIO earlier than is recommended (4-6 months at the earliest), 25 minutes is way too long to wait before soothing.  If you're going to use CIO, read Dr. Ferber's book.  He recommends a graduated CIO method, which is way different than what your DH did.

  • I'd be mad too! I couldn't imagine letting DD cry for 25 minutes at this age!
