I'm sort of neutral on the name Alec. It makes me think of Alec Baldwin... and I have no strong feelings on him either. If you've agreed on it - I think you should use it.

This. I think the pukey face is unnecessary and kind of rude.
I am indifferent to the name Alec. I don't think it is bad at all. I think it is a good name. I also thought of Alec Baldwin when I saw the name. If you both love it, use it.
Pretty much indifferent. The only thing I really dislike about the name is that it looks...unfinished to me. Like it reads awkwardly. I like Alex better also.

I've never met anyone named Alec and I like the sound of it. It's a pretty good name, though I do prefer with a couple of posters that it seems a little unfinished...but I think that about a lot of names.

THIS. Alec is a perfectly fine name. If you love it & agree on it, use it.

She did ask... but the pukey face offers little to no real information.
Why don't you like it? Not your style? Reminds you of a person you dislike? Prefer Alex? Made-up-name syndrome? Old Fashioned?
Also, I don't believe you are actually puking over this, so it seems extreme, inaccurate, and rude as well.
I prefer Alex. Alec just doesn't sound right to me, unless it's followed by Baldwin. But why not just name him Alexander and worry about nicknames later?
first thing that popped into my head: alec baldwin. total jack-off.
i hate that everyone has something to say about names. some boy they knew 20 years ago or their neighbor's dogs name. who cares. if you and DH like it - roll with it baby!

I am indifferent but I think you might run into a lot of people misreading it/mispronouncing it as Alex. I think that would annoy me enough to hear that I might not use it.
I like it. It seems fresh and sophisticated, without being trendy or stuffy. It's not going to be everyone's style, but I don't see anything gross about it.

It's a bit dramatic. Save the pukey face for when someone posts about naming their offspring Aemberlyeigh. Not for a legitimate, normal, if somewhat uncommon name.
Re: Thoughts on the name Alec?
I like it. It reminds me of the dad on Road to Avonlea.
I might worry a tiny bit about the term "smart alec," but not too much.

Same! I've liked the name since watching Road to Avonlea, actually.

I think it's a fine name. I had a boy in my class a few years ago named Alec. No problems with the name, no one called him Alex.
I do know two female Alec's though. I'm not sure if it's becoming a girl's name or if these two are an exception. One is in her 40's the other is 12.
