Child behavior

So this is about Big E. He started school 2 weeks ago and he has done great! Thank goodness he went to summer school/camp and got the biting and hitting out of the way....sort of. As great as he has been in school, he has been quite the opposite the second he steps out of his PK3 classroom. He is extremely whiny and volatile. Plus his listening skills are not very good..."evan, don't hit your brother", "evan, don't knock him over", "evan, don't hit your grandma." Wheew! He goes nuts! This behavior isn't completely new, he was like this at grandma's house way before he started school but I think it's a bit worse now. Today he bit my dad and my hubby. He may still be adjusting? Also, I was concerned that maybe he is not napping enough. They sleep from 12-1:30 at school (which of course he doesn't sleep the full amount all the time) but he was used to sleeping a good 2-3 hours before school started. He has fallen asleep a couple of times on the way home from school (2:45pm). And today, after being at his worse, he fell sleep on the way home from grandma's at around 6:00pm. Anyone been through something like this? Do you think it may be that he's not sleeping enough? And would you let him nap a bit more, from like 3-4pm to take care of it? I'm just afraid if I let him sleep so late that he will struggle at bedtime. Thanks ladies!

Re: Child behavior

  • My LO is not yet a toddler however, I'm thinking he could still be adjusting. My niece started PK3 as well and this is big for them, they are no longer the center of attention and they have to get used to a structure in school.

It could also be that he is not sleeping enough, maybe try a nap right after school.I wish i could help more, I can imagine how tiring it must get.

  • Maybe he's learning this behavior in school? I've seen Camryn's hitting, etc worse since she started the 2 yo room...I assume she's repeating what she's seeing :(
