We are looking to buy a double stroller since we will have 3 under 4 and want each child to have their own seat. We are planning to buy a travel system for the youngest but don't know what to do with the older 2. We tend not to like the strollers that have the seat in the normal position with the 2nd seat under that (a phil & teds type). We were hoping to spend up to, but preferably less than $400 on the double stroller. We spend a lot of time out so it has to be sturdy and comfy! Also we would like a double with parent and child cup holders, reclining seats and a decent storage basket. Something easy to push and compact when folded (since we will need to put both the double and the single in the van) would be ideal.
Suggestions?
Re: Double Stroller Recs?
My review of the two I used got long, so here's the summary-
Graco duoglider: just OK, will work, but better strollers out there
City Mini Double: highly recommend
We had the Graco duoglider which we used for 2 years. I bought it used for $75, but new they are about $150. We felt it was functional but didn't have strong feelings on it one way or the other (didn't love it-didn't hate it). Its best feature was the basket was huge and easily accessible. It had one parent cup holder. It was nice that it had two full-size seats. However, it was heavy and hard to push. I felt lukewarm about its folded size. The front seat did not have a full recline but the rear seat did. DD outgrew it at the age of 4 (both weight and height). We decided that we really needed a double stroller that we could use with all 3, as DD still likes to ride for longer day trips that we take frequently. We sold the duoglider and got the city mini double.
We love the city mini double. I paid about $250 for the 2010 model on clearance, but I don't know what it is priced at now. As it is side by side, it pushes easier. It isn't as heavy which also helps with pushing it. I can push it with one hand if I needed It has a higher weight and height limit, so it will last a while. It has full recline seats. It has a great compact fold that leaves plenty of room in the back of the minivan. I love the sunshades as they are huge and cover a lot. I was concerned a side by side would be too wide, but that has not been an issue for us. I have fit through every door and store aisle encountered so far. It has a large basket, but it is difficult to access it. It does NOT have parent cup holders, but there are cheap ones on amazon that you can buy to go with it ($10). All accessories are an add on for that matter, but I haven't felt the need to buy any for the older kids.
