What do you typically give as a Christening gift?

DH and I are going to a christening Sunday for his friends' new baby.  They volunteer together at a camp every summer, but they're not like talk/hang out all the time kind of friends.  Would you just give some cash in this instance, or is there something else you would give as a christening gift.  I know for my niece and nephew I went with something much more personal (and more expensive) but this isn't family, and neither of us are the godparents.

  • Honestly, I think a nice card would suffice since it's a friend's baby. But if you feel like you need to give something, maybe a childrens' Bible story book or an engraved picture frame with the Christening date? I gave my Goddaughter and my niece each a nice rosary baby bracelet.

  • For close family, a check made out to the child.  For friends, usually a nice card and some religious story books.
  • We always just give a check or cash.

    I like this idea.

  • We give $$ either in cash or check made out to the child. I would definitely give a gift and not just a card if you are attending!

  • Christening gifts I've given & received:

Engraved snowglobe, Disney stock, engraved pocket watch, rosary, cash, engraved photo album, nice leather bound bible.

  • I give money usually but seeing as you dont really know them that well I would get them a nice card and maybe a little precious moments ordament or something small

  • This may be a regional thing. I know in NY and NJ it's pretty customary to give $. To be honest, I never heard of giving someone a card with no gift-- unless you're not attending (and even then, it's a matter of how close you are with them). But I remember when I was on theknot, gift customs varied a great deal around the country.
