Just curious to those of you who have had or will have this done, how far along were you when your dr did it (or will do it) and did you ask or did they offer? also, was it for a medical related reason or "just because" ?
just wondering when typical timing is.
Re: when did you (or will you) have your membranes swept?
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.

I didn't. Sounds painful... eek!
Anyway, my SIL had it done at 40 weeks and she was induced at 41 weeks. She didn't make any progress on her own in that week.

I wont have it done...When baby is ready to come she will! When I had my DD in 2000 they didnt do it...just seems unnatural to me. (unless medically nec.)
With DD, I was 39 weeks, give or take a day. My doctor had mentioned at my 38 week appt that we could discuss it next time, and at my 39 week appt, I requested to have it done. It gave me contractions, but never put me into labor. DD was born at 41w, 0d.
Oh also, I had my membranes stripped twice; at 39 weeks and again at 40 weeks.
My doctor did it at my 40 week appointment. Labor started four hours later. If it's offered this time around (I'm at a different practice) I'll have it done again, but not until I've reached my due date.
With DS1, I had them stripped the day of his due date. He was born four days later.
DS2, I didn't cause he came on his due date.
So, they'll only strip them if I've hit my due date and there's no baby.
my read shelf:
I'm having a natural birth so I won't have my membranes stripped or anything else to try to bring labor on. Baby girl will come when my body's ready to bring her out. The only exception would be if there was a legitimate medical reason I needed to be induced. I would like to try that before a medication induction and would do it when needed based on the problem.
