Cytotec help! Thank you.

Hi Ladies,

I was about 9 weeks pregnant but the baby stopped growing around 7.5 weeks.  I had no bleeding/pain, etc.  My doc gave me three options: wait for natural, Cytotec or D&C.  I chose Cytotec.  Took it Wednesday night.  I had painful cramping and started bleeding about 2 hours after I took the pills.  Also passed a few clots, etc.  Bleeding was never heavy... I'd call it light-medium flow.  Thursday the bleeding was very light and today it is only bleeding/spotting when I wipe.  I am fairly sure this means the pill didn't work, right?  Or is it working and it will just take more time before I pass everything.  Should I call my doc and ask for another dose of Cytotec or do I just continue to wait?  Anyone have experience with this?  I'd really like to avoid a d&c if possible, but I also don't want to sit around waiting and bleeding for over a month, KWIM?  Anyone have advice or information?  Thanks!

    I would guess if you only had light bleeding then it did not work.  It can be hard to insert the pills high enough into your cervix.   I also think most people bleed for 7-14 days after.  But it may depend on how far along you were as well. 

    I am very sorry for your loss.

    i was hoping for a heavy period too after cytotec.. but instead i had a very light period..i didnt even fill one pad a day . bled on and off for 6 or 7 days..  i took 4 tablets to be kept in mouth and then to be swallowed...and i was pretty sure i passed the sac within 8 hours of the dose.. and after that i had it confirmed by a repeat ultrasound and blood test on day 4 after the dose.. so i think u should really go to ur doc and hv a ultrasound and blood test..

    I took it 2 weeks ago and today is the first day with no bleeding/spotting.  It sounds like it didn't work yet for you.  I haven't had my follow up yet but I'm guessing it worked for me.  I felt 2 times that I passed something pretty large and I had alot of clots.  I was alot of bleeding not like af at all and that lasted a couple hours.  I bled heavy for maybe 5 days after.  I think that generally it works within 12 hours if it is going to.   I inserted 800mg and my doctor told me that if it didn't work within 3 days then he would prescribe another dose.  So I would call your doctor to take another dose if you want to do that or a d&c.

    Thank you ladies- these were oral pills (taken 4 at a time) not vaginal.  My doc instructed me to take another dose of Cytotec tonight (4 more pills) and so I am waiting again.  I am sure if this doesn't work I'll have to have a d&c.  I appreciate y'all's help.
