Food Allergy

Soy allergy moms....where do you dine out?

We almost never eat out because of ds's soy allergy and because we all eat paleo...it's just easier, cheaper and better quality to eat at home. However, we'll be on vacation next week and forced to eat out some. Where do you guys normally eat with your soy allergic kids (we don't do soybean oil either)?

  • We just bring my daughter food if we go out.  Soy is a hard one.  I know we order her baked potatoes or steamed rice and veggies if possible, but so much has soy!

  • I'm so excited because I just emailed our favorite restaurant from our last trip there and it hasn't been an hour and the chef already emailed me back and said all their kids menu items are soy free and that he will be happy to answer questions about any other menu items if my choosing! I'm still waiting to hear back from one other place ther that we loved that was on the beach but they already said in their FAQ that they use canola oil so the odds are good we can finds something soy free there (even if he just eats steak and fries or a potato).

  • we bring all of his food. Last vacation we had a kitchen which was great.  The vacation before that i shipped all of his food (cereals, pastas, milk..).

the only thing i was able to order my son was fruit cups and cucumber cups.

I'm sure you can ask to speak with the chef and see if he can grill you chicken using olive oil (after he washes the surface).. it all depends on your comfort level with that (i don't trust anyone).

good luck and enjoy your trip!

It means that we eat meat, veggies, eggs, seafood, fruits, nuts, seeds, good fats (olive oil, animal fats, coconut oil). We do not eat grains, legumes, soy, fats high in omega 6 (canola oil, peanut oil), foods with added sugars or processed/refined foods. We also focus on how our meats/seafood were raised/caught and try to eat as much grassfed beef, pastured chickens and eggs from pastured chickens and pastured pork. We only eat wild caught seafood.

Obviously, we make some exceptions when traveling or when without access to a kitchen, but that how we eat at home. Ds also eats that way at home. At school, I do let him eat what they serve unless it contains soy and then I send a paleo replacement (ie. Yesterday they served corn dog nuggets which contain soy and are a pure crap food so I sent him a roasted chicken leg and thigh as a replacement. They served oatmeal for breakfast which isn't paleo but since it didn't contain soy I let him eat it with the other kids). Since we started eating paleo instead of following a conventional diet, I've lost 40 lbs and had numerous health and digestive issues resolve.
