Reaction to bikini wax (possibly TMI)

I am getting married next weekend and went Wednesday evening for my pre-wedding waxing (brazilian). I have had it done numerous times before and never had a problem however this time, I have had a reaction to it - What I would consider quite a bad reaction.

I know that during pregnancy your skin becomes more sensitive however before going I explained to her that I was pregnant and she advised it would be absolutely fine, maybe just a little more painful during the process.

Just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this during your pregnancy and if so, what did you do to try and resolve it? Did your hormornes cause your skin sensitivity to change to the point of having a reaction to things you never used to?

Re: Reaction to bikini wax (possibly TMI)

  • You would have to describe a little more indepth a "quite bad reaction".  I frequently, even when I am not pg, get some swelling and very angry pores/ hair follicles. I found this time to be quite painful and definitely had more swelling and redness.  I also let it get out of hand Tongue Tied

If it isn't painful, I would recommend a scrub while you are in the shower to make sure any broken roots are removed.  I use one from sephora.  If it is inflamed, use a thin layer of neosporin 2ce daily for a few days and then once a week.  You can also try a calming lotion... eucerin has one that works well for me.

And may the force be with you! It's never fun when it bites you in the a$$.

  • I'm like spolan and get the angry pores too, because I have suuuuper sensitive skin. That said, I got a bikini wax last week and it was fine. It hurt a little more at the time, but I didn't have a worse skin reaction. I hope you're not too uncomfortable!

  • When I get bad reactions, I like using the Sally Hansen Bikini Plus Antibacterial Pain Relief Gel.  You can get it at most drugstores.
  • I waxed yesterday for our upcoming vacation and it hurt more then usual, but the after math was fine. I'm always red/swollen for a few days. Could it just be extra sensitive? I would try some of the pp's suggestions. GL!

  • I had a pretty angry reaction to a bikini wax before, meaning I had a lot of redness and the pores were red and puffed up. She just said to exfoliate every day with a loofah and they will go away in about 4 days. They did and it was fine.

  • I remember posting on my local board & googling before getting waxed to make sure that it would be ok while pg.  It's safe but because your skin is all stretched out and you're retaining more, it would be natural to be a bit more sensitive and painful.

I mentioned this during small talk with the girl who was waxing me (2 weeks ago at 19w), and she said I'll know by my next appointment in 2 months whether I'll be able to handle the pain closer to the end.  She said she just waxed a lady 8.5 months pg who wanted to go into the hospital clean & ready to pop!
