Active Mamas Weekly Check-In

Hey ladies--it's Friday again! I'm posting early in the day & will try to do a RP later on to bump this back up for the West Coast ladies & afternoon bumpers, but I'm on vacation and might forget. If anyone remembers to RP for me, feel free!

If you're new to the check-in, just jump right in! We're trying to track our activity and weight (some of us prefer not to track lbs, which is fine as well) and encourage each other to stay active.

Weight change (pre-preg/last week): +1/-1, glad to bid adieu to one of those extra overeating lbs!

Exercise: My energy level has gotten so much better, but Hurricane Irene wrecked the weekend for me--my gym was closed! :( The rest of the week was OK, I was super short on time.

Friday - Boot camp style workout
Saturday - off, THANKS IRENE :(
Sunday - off
Monday - 20 mins arc trainer, core training class
Tuesday - Group weight lifting class
Wednesday - 30 min arc trainer
Thursday - 2-mile walk (we're in FL on vacation!!)

How did you do?

Re: Active Mamas Weekly Check-In

  • Weight change: none so far

    Fri - Rest

    Sat - Rest

Sun - 7 mile run... felt pretty good and like I could've gone further

    Then things got ugly...

Mon - Wed... REST... laid on the couch and napped mostly every evening. Although I did help DH close our pool on Tues, which was exhausting.

Thurs - 2 mile run in 100+ degree heat, ugh... where are you fall?

I will have a better week next week!

  • I feel my energy has gotten worse but I still managed to gets some walks in.

    Monday- 3.5 mile walk

Tuesday and Wednesday - 3 mile walk

At my last appt. (8/24) I was up two pounds and I will only weight at appts.  I will weight in again on Tues.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a prenatal DVD workout that ISN'T yoga (I need something kind of fast paced).

  • Yay for Friday!

I didn't get as much done exercise wise this week as I'd hoped, but I wasnt' a total lump, so that's good.

Weight change: mostly the same.  Up and down a lb as the week goes on, I'm reining in overeating and focusing on getting in lots of water.  Probably up 0.5-1lb from pre-pg weight.

Friday - 1 game of softball

Saturday - 2 games of softball

    Sunday - off

    Monday - off

Tuesday - shopping!  I got a ton of steps in just wandering around the mall.

Wednesday - general activity.  I spent 2 hours cleaning the extra grout off the new kitchen floor, not traditional exercise, but most certainly activity

    Thurs - off

Goals for next week: get back into daily mobility work and regular strength training.

  • All we did this week was Stroller Strides Wednesday, but we did spend a day at the zoo yesterday and we're headed to the fair today. Wearing a 25 lb toddler must count for something! I'm down about 3 lbs at this point.

I think toting around kids DEFINITELY counts! My daughter weighs 27 lbs and my chunky monkey son weighs 25--that's more weight than I curl at the gym, and I carry it around all day!!

I love this--I think adding a "Goals for next week" line would be great!!

  • me too!  I danced growing up and miss it so much!  So this is a nice substitution for way less $.

Do you modify anything during bootcamp?  I don't jump as high or as much right now, but I'm doing most other things, including the abs sections.  I'm also not kicking as hard as normal.

I'm not doing any modifications for pregnancy yet. I'll start doing abs on an incline on the ball at 14 weeks, and I'm sure jumping will get uncomfortable when I'm bigger. I'm going to try really hard to stay active until the end this time, even if I'm just waddling along on the treadmill at 40 weeks... :)

  • I have basically stopped running...which makes me sad. The thought of pushing the jogging stroller up and down hilly streets makes me not want to do it. I could run solo after she goes to bed, but then I'm too tired. On a good note, I've been walking a lot, and DD has a baby gym class every week, so I chase her around for 45 minutes.

I'm hoping that one day I just feel like getting back into the swing of things again. I would love to go for a nice long run!

  • My week has been pretty boring workout wise, my boobs still hurt too much to run so I've done the elliptical and some weight training every morning this week.  I do really think it is contributing to me feeling pretty good.

  • Ugh, I have done nothing all week. A bit of walking, two days this week I walked 5 or 6 miles total which is a lot. Other days just the usual 3-4 miles total.

Also one day last weekend I did 40 minute yoga from youtube. And I also did some pushups and core work. But I need to get back to the gym. Just so darn tired and nauseous all the time. Plus I've been getting these weird back spasms.

I'm DEFINITELY going to exercise this weekend.

  • Weight: My gym is closed for a month and a half for renovations, so I don't know how much I've gained. I think with my m/s I will be about the same as pre pregnancy.

Workouts: I went for a 2 mile walk on Saturday and I briskly walked 1 mile on M, W, and today. Not much, but it is something.

I haven't had my first appt yet and the nurse I talked to over the phone said to keep my HR under 150 (which is a little conservative in my opinion).... I've worked out very regularly and intensely for the last year, danced growing up, etc.  I consider myself to be a fit person.  She said not to kick either - ok, what's going to happen, am I'm going to kick the baby out?  :)

I talked to one of the instructors who has a 3 month old.  She taught until the day before she had her baby.  She did have some spotting at 7 weeks and I remember her trying to stay low on things and taking it easy in general.  But she was an inspiration to me!  I, like you, hope to stay SUPER active during this pregnancy.  I gained WAY too much weight (55 lbs) with my son, and he was 9 lbs 13 oz and was born via CS.  I'd like to try and avoid that this time for MANY reasons.

Were you as active during your other pregnancies?

  • oh, I like this thread! I'm joining.

My OB said the heart rate limitation is really out of date and that you can continue your pre-pregnancy activities as long as you feel good (not faint, overly out of breath, or weak) doing them. I don't understand the kicking thing at ALL!

Before my first baby, I was a hard core runner and was training for a marathon. I turned into a total slug while pregnant wasn't really active at all--other than a handful of long walks--with my first two. I worked super hard after baby #2 to get back into shape, and I don't want to let myself go this time!!!

  • I've definitely had better weeks.  My DH is getting all up in my biz about working out and how I shouldn't push it too hard or go too often.  Hello?  I'm 5'1".  If I gain 2lbs, you SEE it.  The thought of putting on 25 - 35 libbies on my body makes me think of Jabba the Hut.  Obviously I know my limits and when to scale down.  Anyone else who was very active pre-pg getting flak about keeping up their workout routines?

    And that was my vent.

That being said, my workout week was no bueno.  Hold me to it this next week:  I will go to Crossfit at least 4 times.

    Friday:  Crossfit

    Sat & Sun:  Hurricaned in

    Monday:  Crossfit

    Tuesday:  Crossfit

    Wednesday:  Off

Thursday:  Off - Due solely to laziness.

    Weight gain:  1+lb.  Boooooo

  • Friday:  Off - Too sick to swim

    Sat & Sun:  Off

    Monday:  Swam 600 yd

    Tuesday:  Off

Wednesday:  Off - I had to work overtime

    Thursday:  Off

Weight gain:  -1 lb. compared to previous week

    Normal routine is swim MWF.
