Do those OPKs *really* expire?

I told myself I wouldn't spend any more money on OPKs...  but I have a few sticks leftover from last month (the DIAC ones with the tight cap) that are clearly labeled "do not use 30 days after opening."  But maybe it's kind of a soft expiration date, like cereal?  Haha cheap-o wants to know, if you ladies have any input!
