Do your stitches itch? Possible TMI

I had 1st degree tearing on the sides of my labia and I'm feeling itchy down there. I don't think it's a yeast infection but it very well may be. I'm still having PP bleeding so I can't really tell if I have discharge. I'm thinking maybe it's my stitches that are itching, I remember stitches on my eye itching before but these stitches are different since they dissolve right?

  • You're right...the stitches are different than the normally used ones but you're still going to feel itchiness as the incision heals just like you would any where else.  You should be due back to the doctor in a few days for your 2 wk check right?...maybe you should bring that up and have em' take a look.

  • I didn't have any stitches but I also felt very itchy for a while.  I think it's the healing process and some irritation from all the blood/wetness.  I felt itchy down there after my c/s too and that obviously wasn't from stitches since my baby didn't come out that way.  A&D ointment helped me feel less irritated.

Good point. Thanks. And Gigi, I don't see my OB again until July 13, for my 6week, this office doesnt do 2 weeks, and I guess my doc is on vaca until then because that's her earliest available, and they won't let me see a doc other than the one that delivered me. Stupid gov't health care.

  • I thought I was feeling my stitches and that was what was itchy, but I ended up having a pretty bad yeast infection. I would say if the itching doesn't decrease in a few days to call up your doctor.

  • MY stitches itched like CRAZY! I found that a warm bath helped a lot - as warm as you can stand. Don't add soap as that may dry out your skin more and cause more itching. (Btw mine were dissolving stitches as well.) My itching stopped right around the time my pp bleeding stopped, at about 3 weeks.
  • i just posted a few days ago about the itching!!! i can't stand it!

  • Get some Epsom Salt and use it in a warm bath.  I did that every day the first week or so and it helped me heal so quickly (I also had two small first degree tears).  Hope you find some relief soon! :)
  • I'd be careful, I thought I just had normal itchy stitches, and it ended up being the yeast infection from hell, that I am still dealing with 2 weeks later.

  • Perineal care is important, especially if you have had stitches after giving birth. Use a peri-bottle each time you use the bathroom, and pat dry with a soft facial tissue. I was told to take ?sitz? baths ? three times a day, for 20 minutes. It really helped.
