Update: Saw LC..So frustrated...Mastitis / Dicloxacillin?

Did anyone's LO react to the antibiotic at all?  I started it yesterday and he's super fussy and wanting to eat every hour and a half.  I just tried to pump and I'm getting nothinng out of one breast that I usually get 3-5oz from.  Im at my wits end with the lack of sleep and all tthe complications of BF.  I'm not even sure I was correctly diagnosed w mastitis and now I have to give him formula bc I have nothing

ETA:
So I pumped this morning a couple of hours after I got nothing and I was able to get a couple of ounces, so I felt better.  I then went to a lactation consultant, who said she doesn't think I have mastitis bc she didn't see any red & couldn't feel hardness, that maybe I just had a bug.  I think my fever/flu-like symptoms had something to do with my clogged duct last week, but I'm going to stop taking the antibiotics now that I feel better (I've taken 4 out of 20 pills).  I know you're supposed to finish taking the course, but I would rather not while I'm nursing.

  • Could it be that he's not really hungry, but just wants to comfort nurse? Does he seem satisfied with your breast, even if it feels empty?

  • How old is your LO? When I had mastitis, my supply went down on the infected side. It rebounded in about a week. If your supply is being affected, that's probably why he's wanting to nurse more frequently. You need to keep nursing or at least pump when you give him formula so your body knows it needs to keep producing milk. What were your symptoms that led to the diagnosis of mastitis?

This...your supply will probably decrease, which is why he may need to nurse more.

Mastitis sucks...I hope you feel better soon.
