If you CD...

what do you use?

I'm just curious. We used to use a little of everything: pockets, prefolds, fitteds, wool & fleece covers, AIO's. We now use BG one-size pockets for DS, stuffed with extra at night. We use small BG AIO's for DD and the one-size pockets stuffed extra at night. We have a rediculous amount of diapers, but I still wash every day since there's a full load with 2 of them. Oh and we also have a very pretty pocket print from amandabrown :)

Re: If you CD...

  • I really want to try cding, after all this talk of it. Would it be stupid to buy 2 or 3 and see how it goes? Or once you made the decision, did you go all in?

  • We use pocket diapers with the snaps. LO has been so active lately that it's hard to put a CD on her. We use a disposable at night since she's such a heavy wetter.

We went all in, because our #1 motivating factor was financial.  We figured, in for a penny in for a pound.  But really, even a few will make a difference financially and for the planet (cue rainbows and unicorns).

We bought 20 FuzziBunz (pocket) one-size in a rainbow of colors because my #2 motivation was avoiding those stupid bloomers under dresses, HA.  It ran us $400, but we figured if we used them for 6 months or so we'd break even vs disposables.  You can get way cheaper than that, especially if you use the big cloth square style from previous generations, but the ones we have 'work' on her almost like disposables.  I went with the pocket rather than an all-in-one because I can add as many additional inserts as I need for overnight, and they dry much faster.

I don't think it would be stupid to try it out.  If you hate it you can resell. CD's have a pretty high resale value  You might look into buying used on Spots Corner on Hyena Cart.  Your cheapest option would be to buy prefolds and covers but depending on how wiggly your baby is that might not be the easiest route, but it definitely will be the cheapest. I would go read the FAQ's on the CD board to familiarize yourself with it.  It will help you make choices on what might work best for you.

My stash is pretty filled out with different options.  I have about 28 pockets give or take.  Most of them are Kawaii which are great and have held up beautifully.  I have 2 dozen prefolds which I primarily use at home bc she feels wet right away in these so they are just less convenient when we are out an about.  I have a few daytime fitteds and some homemade ones made by MIL.  For night time I used B4's with wool covers.  I have probably waaaaaaaay too many diapers.  My total investment is somewhere around $250.

  • I have a lot of diapers. I have pockets (one size and sized), all in ones, all in twos, and fitteds. I also have a bunch of prefolds and covers which I use the least, but love for hot days..and to put on my changing table and various other uses. I have wool and PUL covers..I'm a CD ho. I have mostly BG and BGE's for my mainstream diapers with PUL. (I do have some Blueberry/Swaddlebees pockets as well, but the velcro is sort of sharp so I don't prefer them. I also have Kawaii's. My hubby loves them, I'm not sure I love them. I wanted to trade them recently for some BGE's and he said no way. ) My Fitteds are mostly Monkey Snuggles and GoodMommas, with a few other hyena cart brands thrown in..and one awesome super hero Old School Cool Cloth Diapers..but I feel like they are getting to be too small.

MarSamWhitney: Go ahead and give it a try. If you just get a couple to try it out, it will be a nice way to give your LO a break from sposies and sort of air out a bit. You never know..you might love it.

  • Thanks for the tips, I think I will check it out. I know i'm a little late in the game..but hearing you guys talk about it made me curious.  I suppose I could buy what i thought would be two days worth and go from there. I'll do a little research and let you guys know what I come up with. I think its great for saving the environment, but I would also be excited to save money too ;-) I've mentioned I went down to part time when I went back to work, and money can be tight with having a baby that I feel I must buy every little gadget for. lol

  • We also have a ridiculous amount of diapers. We have about 20 flips with 3 of those covers. Those are the easiest for DH to use, and he can't handle anything else. OMG if the soaker isn't sewn into the diaper he loses it too. But anyways, we have about 20 flips, 3 flip covers, 6 fitteds, 2 pockets, 12 smartipants pockets, 2 dozen prefolds, denim covers, and fleece covers. I'm about to start making some upcycled wool shorties too. Squee!

Marsamwhitney- I think you would love it and also suggest Spot's Corner on Hyena Cart for some good deals. If you ever have any questions on washing, poop-removal, whatever feel free to ask! PM or FB me (or anyone else here I'm sure). Keep us posted on how things go. :)

  • Thanks for all the responses girls! Just curious to see what everyone else is doing these days. Also thinking of selling a bunch of diapers we don't use anymore.

Nope. I love it way too much. I would never trade it. Never, ever. BTW, I think I worded my post wrong. I didn't mean my old school cool dipes were too small. I meant my other dipes.
