C-sections

How long after did you have pain?

How long after your c-section have you had pain? DD is almost 16 mos and I still have pain daily. It feels like a paper cut sort of. I have told my doctor and she says it is normal, that it could take up to 2 years!

PS - thanks for this board!!

Re: How long after did you have pain?

  • No pain anymore here.  It's been five months.  I am still a bit numb over my incision on the left side.

  • I don't have pain either, LO is 3 1/2 months. I am still numb just above and just below the incision but my OB said I will prob for the rest of my life. Have you talked with your doctor?

  • With both c-sections, my pain stopped around 2.5 weeks.

Now-- once I start working out again, I will probably feel it a bit, but it won't be super painful. I may have a few random sharp pains here and there that only last a few seconds, but nothing really bad.

I still have twinges every now and then, likely from the nerves that were damaged around the incision.

  • When I work out I still get extra sore around my surgery area.  But on a daily basis of working, walking, playing i do not have pain.
  • I don't have pain anymore, just a little numbness near the incision. I do get achy when I am on my feet too long or lift something heavy. I don't know why that is.

  • Baby is almost 7 months and I still am very tender and numb around the incision. This was my second c-section. I had pain after the first for over a year. Luckily during c-section number 2 they said that there was not much scar tissue on my uterus from the first.

  • I don't have pain anymore. The only thing I have noticed is about a week before AF shows up it really itches.

  • I think my incision pain was gone several weeks after having DS, but I feel as though I still have numb spots around it sometimes.

  • I only had pain for about two weeks after I had DS. Today, I just have some numbness around the scar and when I touch my skin it feels like pins and needles but I think it is just the nerves and the numbness starting to go away.

  • My baby is 15 mos. old and I still have pain.  I had a terrible recovery and at my annual my dr. said that it's done all the healing it's going to do.  And there is some kind of (kelloid?) scar tissue on it, which makes it "more uncomfortable" she says.  She said if it really bothers me I could go get a shot of cortisone in it, which I am not really jumping out of my seat to go do.  Most of my scar is really dark pink & raised until towards the end of the right side of it, then it almost disappears.  It also hurts more during PMS with cramps.  Just last night my husband brushed his hand over my scar and it hurt.  When I wear a belt with my pants it sometimes hurts.  It still does hurt quite often but I manage to just live with it.  I know everyone's experience is different but I was starting to wonder since nobody else I knew still had pain after this long.  I would love for it to feel numb instead.
  • pain lasted about 2.5 weeks as well.  My son is now 6 weeks and I will have random stinging, but it doesn't last long.

This and after my c/s I felt great after 2 weeks...

I would see a new doctor if they told it me you could be in "pain" for 2 years...

  • I had the same 2 to 3 week pain and a still have some twinges every now and then.  I would get a second opinion if my doctor told me it was normal, or at least find out why its happening if there is anything you can do about it.  exercises, vitamins, lotions, etc...

  • Every once in awhile during my period, I have sharp pains around my C-Section scar, but I'm still only 10 months post C/S. Most of the time, I don't have any pains at all.

If only I could get rid of the C/S pooch though! KWIM?

  • It's been a while but I think it was only 3-4 months that I had pain. It's been 3 1/2 years now and my stomach is still numb though, maybe that's why.

  • By 4 weeks out I felt like a new person.  I stopped taking drugs after about 3 weeks.

  • I had to have an emergency c-section on the day I went into labor with my first child. I started really walking with little pain in 8 weeks. It didn`t take me long to completely stop taking my pain meds. I stopped the day I was released from the hospital. I was on them for 8 days. So hopefully this next will be just as easy.
  • I stopped heavy pain meds after 2 days but had soreness at the incision site for about 8 weeks and lived in sweat pants because they were loose and didn't irritate the skin.  I don't have any pain right now - 2.5 months pp.

  • I still have irritation most days, and I have pain when I lean up against the counter or have something pressed against the scar. From what I've learned, it's normal to still have moments of tenderness.

  • I am still sensitive and sore every day.  I think I am getting sensation back, because I keep getting really sharp stabbing pains.
  • I had pain on and off for about 4 months.  I have a lot of numbness now (which is normal, and will probably always be there).  Sometimes I get intense itching along the scar, but I can't scratch it.  It drives me batty.

  • We are almost 8 months out. No pain, but numbness as others have said. The worst thing for me has been that my stomach feels tender, especially when my husband or daughter push on it. It's not pain, but I don't feel like myself either. Someone else mentioning the C/S pooch- I thought I was the only one!! I have such a noticeable belly there, I wonder if it's from C/S, pregnancy, or both!
  • I have pain every once in a while and I am 18 months PP. It usually happens when it is cold out and my pants rub against my scar. I am still numb though.

  • The first week I was in alot of pain. 2nd week the pain eased up but was still in some pain. I remember the first 2 weeks pretty vividly b/c once I was released from my hospital, I went to the hospital where they kept my DD for another week in ICU. After we finally brought DD home, alot of it was a blur and I was finally able to relax.  Probably most or all of the pain had gone away after a month for me. I don't remember exactly but it was no pain after the 2nd month.
