Ours is a combo - we just liked her first name (wanted something nature inspired) and her middle name is my grandmother's name. :)

We decided to use my mom's middle name as her first name and my MIL's middle name for her middle name. They go together perfectly.

    SS Here. ;)

First name is one that I've ALWAYS loved, honestly don't remember when I started loving it...if I just liked the sound of it, the historical references, literary or otherwise...had to convince DH, but he fell in love too. Middle name is a family name (my maiden name actually).

We already have a girl name picked out and again...first name we just like the sound of it and the middle name is a family name.

If we have another boy...have a middle family name picked out, but the first name is still up for negotiation. ;)

We had 3 different choices for DS before he was born.  One set was a family name, another set was after DH's two best friends, and then the 3rd choice was a name we just loved.  We ended up going with the set after DH's best friends because the names just fit him.

We're waiting until we know the sex of this LO to continue our name debate for boy names.  Our girl name is after our grandmothers.

For a long time DH was obsessed with the names Joseph and Katherine. He insisted those were the only names he liked. We wanted a nice/classic sounding name. We also have a shared love for old movies. One day he was joking around about naming the baby after one of our favorite actors, Cary Grant. I said I didn't want to name him Cary. So he said how about Grant? We both kind of like it (which was unusual for us) so it went on the list. DH still kept pushing for Joseph, which I liked because it was my grandpa's name, but I didn't love it for a first name. When we finally found out we were having a boy we revisited our list and we just knew he was meant to be Grant Joseph. So he's named after an actor and my Grandpa. :)

All three are different. Darrian's name was suggested to us by my SIL, and I loved it. His middle name is my Dh's. With Miles and Quincy.. It was hard and a combo of all of the above I think. DH is also a jazz buff and liked Miles Davis and Quincy Jones so it fit.

I picked after a real person.

I like Hebrew or biblical names and DH wanted an Italian name.  So we picked the Italian version of a Hebrew name.

This baby on the other hand, may be unnamed forever because we can't agree... at all.

I saw the name Donovan in a baby name book and mentioned it to DH.  A couple days later Landon Donovan scored the winning goal over Algeria in the World Cup taking them to the next round, so that kind of solidified it for us.

His middle name, Jones is my mother in law's maiden name.  :)

Ellie is named after John's grandmother, Eleanor Burton. Even before we were married I thought we would name our first child after her, either Eleanor for a girl or Burton for a boy. We did consider other names, but settled on Eleanor.

A little bit of all of the above.  Ryan's middle name is a name I've always loved, his first name came from a lot of debate and searching name databases between DH and I.  Aaron's middle name is DH's grandfather's name and his first name sort of came from a nurse who said that, with his very blonde hair, he looked enlightened.  I recalled from the names book that I had brought to the hospital with me that Aaron means enlightened, so there you have it. :)

I think i have posted these stories before, but i love the kids names and the stories behind them!  So forgive me of the repeats.

Alexis Rhiannon, was supposed to be Rhiannon MaeLynn, but DH didnt like the sound of it. Rhiannon is a favorite song of mine from Fleetwood Mac. DH came up with Alexis Rhiannon, since i wouldnt budge on the Rhiannon part. I liked Alexis, cuz i could call her Lexi.

Orion Atreyu, had a helluv a time deciding on a boys name. DH made a joke one day about naming our boy Orion Poisiden. And i liked the Orion part. Then we were at Ozzfest and there was a band named Atreyu, and there back ground on stage was the bands name in large print. I said Orion Atreyu. LOVE it!!! DH signed and said when his son askes why he got such a lame name, its because daddy was to drunk to tell mommy no.

Currently, my son LOVES his middle name, because we have been watching Never Ending Story, and reading the book aloud each night, and one of the heros is named Atreyu. another reason why i love the name, that movie was a favorite of mine growing up.

We were just thinking of names and I thought of Charlie. I went to school with a Charlie and we both liked it.

As for middle names, I like them to have some sort of tie with our families. Charlie's middle name is my maiden name. That was important to me because I am the last one in my family with our last name and I wanted it to be carried on. The middle name of #2 will be named after my father in law (Louis) or my mother in law's middle name (Rose).

Well, I wanted Crash.  Loved it for years, but couldn't get dh on board.  I had a list of about 20 boy names.  Dh went to work with a name book and one of the names he liked was on m list.  Not number 1 for sure, but we compromised.

When I was dating my now husband, we heard our daughters name at a bowling alley.  We never really discussed names or marriage really, but I said I loved that name and he did too.  We remembered it when we were naming her.

Middle names for our son were going to be after our fathers.  FIL's name worked better.  B's middle name was a name that I wanted for a first name, but it sounded a bit too much like my husband's name.

I picked Other, because it's sort of a blend for me too.

With DS, we went with a family name from DH's side as the middle name. We went with 18 letters in the full name as a nod to my family heritage (the number 18 is significant in the Jewish culture because it is the numerical value of the word Chai, meaning life or living). His first name was one that 1) we both liked, 2) fit the criteria for 18 letters and 3) flowed with the middle name/last name.

For this baby, we will likely follow the same formula, though we haven't even begun thinking about names yet.

Pretty the same as what other people posted...both boys have middle names after family (A's is after my BIL who passed away 11 years ago, and S's is both after DH's grandfather and my great-uncle). For their first names, I actually wanted Irish names and have always loved Sean. I was lucky that DH liked it too...we both just loved the name Aiden even though we knew it was/is uber popular.

All of our names are family names.

DS # 1, first is distant family name, middle is same as DH & DH's Grandfather

DS # 2, first is after my Grandma and middle is my brother's name

I planned to use my favorite grandparent's middle name as DS' first name but then my brother gave it to his son as his middle name.  DH's middle name is passed down to all the men in their family (all three of them!) and so we planned to use that as a middle.  What we ended up doing was pushing our planned first to the middle so DS has two middle names.  And we added a new first name that it turns out was also a family name.  I had a short list of names and DH liked that one best.

Ours was a combo of from a book, honoring a family member(s), and name sake.

We didn't want a Jr, but did want the boy or girl to share in our respective initials.  This theme will apply to any subsequent pregnancies no matter the sex of the baby since the next (if it happens), will likely be our last.  And since DH already has his initials taken care of, the next one gets mine.  :)

The middle name is a family name.

And his first name came from a book, but honors all of our Grandfathers who worked in some trade or profession where they used their strong hands to craft something.  We figured Mason (brick mason) was a perfect tribute to all of them.

Sort of similar story here. When DH and I first started dating, I mentioned that I wanted to change my name when I was a pre-teen to something more origional, like Paloma. DH is Mexican, and really liked it, being a Spanish word. At that moment we both knew, but didn't say out loud, that we picked our daughter's name. Over the years, after talking marriage and kids, we would refer to our future children by saying, "When Paloma comes along". When we found out we were expecting a girl, we knew we had to go with it!

Evelyn was my grandma's middle name who passed away unexpectedly in April, a month short of her 90th birthday and 3 months short of meeting her first great grandchild.

Kiddo #1's name was super easy. Her first name is my mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother's name; her middle name is my MIL's middle name (which was also the name of the woman who raised her).

For #2, we had NO IDEA what we were going to do. My requirements were that it was a family name and that, like K's, it had a formal version and a nickname (I didn't like the idea of one name being easily shortened/lengthened and the other not). My MIL wanted us to use the name she originally chose for DH but I hated the way it sounded and I also rebelled at the idea of naming my kids completely for my husband's family -- they already have his super crazy last name. So, we ended up naming him a name based on my great grandfather combined with his great aunt and his middle name is my maiden name.

For Jacob we just liked the names. We actually didn't want to use the name because it's so common but we just couldn't imagine any other name for him. Avonlea's name is from Anne of Green Gables, my favorite series ever since I was little. When I met an Avonlea years ago I fell in love with it. She has my and my aunts middle name. It's kind of funny how one child has a super common name and one has a very uncommon name but oh well!

LO's name is Adele, and we always get "did you name her after the singer?!" as a response. Technically, no, but while we were talking names, the radios had "Rolling In The Deep" on heavy rotation and just liked the name. Also, Adele sounds really cool with our last name.

Her middle name, Natsuko, means "summer child" in Japanese since she was born at the beginning of summer.

Side note: We didn't decide on a name until we saw her. We brought "Adele" and "Elizabeth" with us to the hospital. Smile

Kyva's full first name is Kyveli (pronounced kee-VEL-ee). It's the name of an ancient Greek earth mother goddess. Actually Kyveli was worshipped by many ancient civilizations and went by different names (Cybele, Rhea, Gaia and Magna Mater to name a few). We chose a Greek name as a nod to my heritage, since she doesn't get my very Greek maiden name as her last name. I've always loved mythological names and we wanted one that wasnt too obvious, like Athena. I met the first and only Kyveli I've ever known personally in a Modern Greek language class I took several years ago and I was instantly drawn to it. Her middle names are Jade Irene. We gave her 2 because my sisters and I all have 2. Jade is a name we just liked, and Irene is also Greek, meaning 'peace'. We like to joke that her middle name is greenpeace.

If we have a son someday, his name will combine family names and traditions from both sides. Our next daughter will also have a Greek name (Kalista w/the NN Kali).

We're kind of a mixed bag too.

For Natalie, we chose her name from a baby book, I really really wanted Elizabeth, but Dan was totally against it.  Elizabeth was my grandmother's name, although we didn't know that until after she had passed away since she told everyone her name was Nancy when she came to the US and all her family called her Annie...so everyone was pretty shocked to find out her name was actually Elizabeth LOL.  Anyhow I got Dan to use Elizabeth for the MN.

With Addison, I liked the name from the baby book when we were choosing for Natalie, but it obviously got more popular with the TV show Private Practice, I was hesitant becase of that but ultimately decided I like the name more than I'd dislike answering that question.  Dh wanted Isabelle but in the end I won.  Her MN is Novella after Dhs' grandmother who passed away when I was pg with Addi.

T has always said he really likes his dad's name, Clifford.  For one thing, I felt naming a child after a living grandparent (of the child, not the parent) was a little strange, for another we have a Vizsla (which is what Clifford the big red dog is), and for another I don't like the name.  ANYWAY, ages ago I thought of Clive Owen and Clive Davis, Clive Cussler...etc and I was like, "I don't like Cliff, but I like Clive" but T was not having it.  So, we had basically completely settled on the name Thomas for a boy, but recently T came home from work and was like, "I can't name my kid Tom...my boss is Tom, and I don't like him/the name enough anymore." SO, we broke out the baby name book and started looking through it.  We went to the Clifford section since I knew that's T's favorite boy's name ever and we talked about Clive and nicknames like Cli and Clivey.  Lawrence is after T's parents best friend Larry who passed away a few years ago very quickly due to aggressive cancer.  T was very close to him, even gave the eulogy at his funeral so Lawrence was always going to be a middle name, and we ended up loving completely how Clive Lawrence sounded together.

Harper was named after Harper Lee, author of to kill a mockingbird...my favorite book. I'm a civil rights lawyer so it's not surprising I love the story and I admire ms. Lee for writing a story about racism, intolerance and fighting for what's right even if nobody else believes in you. I hope my harper will grow up to stand up to adversity and fight injustice.

her middle name, Rose I just loved how it flowed with her middle name and when I suggested it to alex he told me it was his great grandmothers name (rosa) and his moms middle name so it just seemed perfect.

It was sort of a combo. I loved the children's book Madeline when I was little. That was my inspiration... from there I knew I wanted to incoporate my late Aunt's name Diana Lynn. We shared a middle name and I wanted to continue that tradition. That's how Madelynn Diana came to be our final decision.

Her first name: A suggestion from my favorite ice skater ever, Michelle Kwan. I got to ask a question at an event I attended while pregnant. :-) I asked her for a baby name mostly for my own amusement, but the name she came up with got a lot of positive feedback from our family and friends, so it became one of our top three options.

Her middle name: Same as my first name. I was named for both of my grandmothers, so I wanted to keep the name going in the family.

And then we made sure the full name sounded good when inserting "Senator" or "Justice" in front of it.
