I'm verrrry close to delivery our 2nd child! We have a 6 year old little boy and I am in need of some creative ideas to keep him excited and involved so he doesn't feel left out, etc. through this whole process.
Here's what we have to do so far: 1.here in the next few days, take him shopping to find something from him to our little girl...2. get him a disposable camera right before going to the hospital so he can take whatever and how ever many pictures he wants to take at the hospital of the baby, family, etc.
Anymore ideas?
TIA!
Re: Advice, Ideas for older siblings welcoming a new baby...
My older DDs liked going to build-a-bear to make a gift for their new sister.
This. We also let DD get one for herself so she didnt feel left out.
We made sure that DD1 was presented with a big sister gift from DD2 when she came to the hospital to meet her sister. DD1 was also the one to pick out the homecoming outfit and when we did birth announcments, DD1 designed them with me and the announcment started off "Madison proudly announces the arrival of her little sister Olivia Harlie:"
DD#1 is 8...# 2 is due in Dec...
Some things working for us...
1. she is just plain excited!
2. recorded babies heartbeat from doppler and built a bear for #1 using it as the sound..she loves to tell people about it and be close to her sister already!
3. she helped build the registry (yes ettiquete aside, we are being thrown a shower and have NOTHING from #1)
4. She is the news breaker to anyone we haven't seen since finding out the sex...
