This is my first post on this board, I mostly stick with my due date board and trimester board.
I am just over 23 weeks and hoping for a VBAC. As of right now OB is on board, and she delivered #1 (over 8 yrs ago) via emergency c/section.
Her only concern is if #2 is too large (#1 was 8lb4oz and was nearly 3 weeks early, no gestinational diabetes or excessive weight gain)... I am keeping my fingers crossed for a VBAC.
Just wanted to pop in to say HI!
Re: Fingers crossed!
Thanx for the welcome!
We are optimistic, but my anatomy will not allow a very large baby to make it safely (like over 9lbs)
I am just glad my OB is supportive, and actually made the suggestion before I asked..at our very first visit! Either way I want what will be healthiest for baby, but I am sure am excited about the possibility of completing labor as my previous c-section was after 4 hours of intense labor where she remained at 0 station and started having decells in heartrate! After 10 days in NICU for respiratory distress I have a perfectly healthy 8yr old!!
Welcome! What was the reason behind your c/s?
Good luck with your VBAC
DD stayed @ 0 station for 4 hrs of pushing, then her heartrate was dropping into the 80's w/ every contraction..
ended up at some point during labor she put her arm over her head, and twisted her legs in the cord, she was basically stuck at the beginning of the birth canal, nearly broke her arm...it was bent for about a week, but no long term damage.
When she was born she was in such distress that her APGAR was a 4. She collapsed the upper lobe of her left lung, but thankfully, came around very quickly with nothing more than an oxygen hood and a splint. She stayed in NICU for 10 days to ensure that she was healthy and showed no signs of damage to brain or organs. Thankfully no lasting effects!!
Wow, glad to hear she made a full recovery!
Thanx! We were very thankful to have such a thourough NICU team. It seemed like forever, but when I took a healthy baby, I realized how incredibly lucky I was, while we were there a baby from another hospital was life-flighted in, she had a lesser degree of distress, but that nursery (not NICU) just allowed her to feed and everything, she had a perferated bowel (common side effect of low oxygen levels) and unfortunately they were not able to save her. I Have spent the last 8 yrs being thankful for my hospital choice, though I NEVER thought I would need a NICU!
I am very hopeful for a VBAC< but no matter what I am confident that my Dr, DH and I will make the safest decisions given any circumstance.
