C-sections

Anyone have a post-op infection?

Long story short, I got an infection at my incision 10 days pp.  I had to have it re-opened and drained and it eventually healed.

I had an unplanned pregnancy with ds.  We have been TTC #2 for 30 cycles now.  My RE thinks that my post-op infection may have an effect on my fertility.

Has anyone else had an infection?  How bad was it?  Have you TTC since?

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

Re: Anyone have a post-op infection?

  • i had an infection about 5 days pp. i went on a pretty heavy antibiotic for a while, i forget what it was called. i thankfully did not need to have it drained. we haven't ttc yet, however i was told that i likely have significant internal scarring which could maybe one day be an issue.

eta - just remembered, antibiotic was augmentin

  • The day I was discharged it became evident that I had an infection. They had to reopen the incision and pack it with dressing. I had a nurse come to my house daily for 3 weeks to change the dressing. We haven't started TTC and we don't plan to for a while. I am a bit worried about 2ndary infertility as a result of the c/s itself, but hadn't even thought of the impact the infection may have had. I am verY sorry for your struggle and hope that you get some positive news soon.

  • I had a post op infection and required wound vac closure. it took at least 8 weeks of antibiotic treatment and nursing for the incision to heal completely. It was a very crazy time, but it did not effect my ability to conceive, I am 34 weeks pregnant with our second child.

My OB (who delivered DS1) has discussed with me the plans to keep me from getting another infection, including not using staples to close my incision, using my original incision and cleaning up the scar tissue, and having a pre op and anesthesiology consult before my c/s so that I can be given a special wash to use on my skin that they are giving to surgery patients to help prevent infection.

I hope that you figure out whats going on. GL!

  • I had one on one side of my incision.  It showed up 5 days pp and I went to the doctor.  I was put on Keflex for 7 days and the culture came back positive for staph, doc was not thrilled about that but the Keflex did the trick.  I guess I will ask about IF due to infection at my 6 week visit.  Hadn't even thought about it.
  • I got cellulitis about a week to week and a half after my surgery.  I just had to take antibiotics and was all better.  I'm sorry you're having fertility issues.  I've had 2 csections and didn't have a problem getting pg with our 3rd this time around.
