TTC after 35

McIrish - hello and a little unsolicited advice :)

I just wanted to say hello, and give you a little unsolicited advice. Just RELAX - just kidding!!!!! But really, I think you should try IVF again. There is this one site I go to that explains how egg quality declines with age. But it does show that there are still a few good eggs left, and it's really just luck whether or not those are selected during one IVF cycle or even a natural cycle. I can't speak from experience (since I've been trying for... wait for it...19 cycles) but I do have hope that there is just one good egg in there for all of us.

I hope you are well, and this is just meant to be a little friendly piece of support, so please don't take any of it any other way than that, Even though I haven't done IVF yet, I know how bad it sucks after a failed cycle.

  • Hey there,

Yes, it is like looking for a needle in the haystack. One good egg is all we need to find but it's like the scavenger hunt from he!!... The problem is getting eggs from me. It is hard to stimulate DOR/POF ladies.  Getting 2 eggs with all that work/drug/expense is hardly better than just trying naturally since I do ovulate on my own.

Anyway, I will do IVF again IF the insurance company will pay. They may deny me due to poor response. We won't be doing it again if we have to pay OOP. The thing with DOR is you need a Sh!t-load of drugs so it tends to be the MOST expensive IVF out there.  My last cycle was like $25K with drugs.  I don't qualify for any shared risk programs due to my FSH. DH will not agree to pay OOP for a 15% chance of success. I can't blame him. My only saving grace from this failed cycle is that "at least" it wasn't our money. I think I would really go postal then. I hope no one is throat punching me right now because I know how many of you have to pay for this and my heart goes out to them.

All of that being said, I received a new box of CBEFM sticks today from Amazon just in time for CD5 tomorrow.  I'm seeing a pattern of DOR ladies getting KU from natural cycles and I really want to join the group (waves to JB, JordanA, Danish, new member ELF!!). DH is getting lucky this month since he was cut off entirely during IVF:-)

  • Glad DH is getting a little somethin' somethin'!

I do agree about the expense being almost not worth it for this specific situation. Hey what about mini-IVF? Seems to be A LOT cheaper and some are geared towards DOR women since there aren't a buttload of eggs to work with anyway. I know I've mentioned this to you before, but here I am again, being a guidance counselor for something I don't really know much about. But I am working my way through a Dr. Google medical license and becoming that pestery patient at the RE who asks too many questions.

I do love that SO many of the DOR ladies are getting K/U. Awesome. It can give us all hope.

I am totally stalking the insurance lady at my RE's office because she will get my report before I will find out what it says at my WTF in 2 weeks.  I'm hoping she will call me tomorrow and give me the scoop. The team was supposed to review my case yesterday.

What I've read is that they do minimal stimulation and retrieve 1-3 eggs over a period of months. They save them up, and then put a few good ones back in during another cycle. Or, maybe they just collect 1-3 with minimal stims and put 1 back in. Damn! Fail on this exam question. Well, let us know what you find! I know mini-IVF is a newer philosophy but it makes a lot of sense and is way cheaper.  Where is tst1998? I bet she'd know the scoop on this process.

    Take care of yourself!

from what i have read, mini ivf is when they use high doses of cheap drugs (clomid) instead of the spendy kind. they don't get as many eggs, but the hypothesis is they are better eggs.  i think most infertility docs that are affiliated with universities and hospitals reject this approach ... but many private infertility practices will offer it since it is less expensive for folks.
