Strange Nipples

Mine are looking weird. Gosh this sounds gross, but I have to say it if I want advice on it. Here goes...They seem a little dry/flakey/crusty.

Anyone else experience this? I haven't had any leakage yet, so its not that. Maybe just dry skin? I have no idea. Is there a moisturizing cream I should try? Or just regular lotion maybe?

Mine have been a little dry too. I'm assuming it's because they're bigger than they normally are and the skin around them is stretching. I've just been using body lotion, but they do make nipple creams that might actually work better.

Crusty all over or just in the cracks of your nipples? If it's just in the cracks, it could be the beginning of milk production, I guess. That's what's going on for me and I'm having such a hard time not picking it out...I'm one of those gross pickers.

Yep! My nipples have been this way since my oldest DD. Its embarrassing, but the only one who gets to see them are dh and myself (and occassionally my dr) but my nipples are cracked and crusty looking..and feel dry and itchy. Ive tried every lotion and potion and nothing works. (Lansinoh works best but I had to find a cream that was thick to help ease the discomfort but so far no cure)

Dont try regular lotion because it can block your ducts and oil glands causing very painful sores and bulges in your breasts!! I found out the hard way....

It's fine. Normal. Try lanolin.

this. and when you shower don't scrub them or use lots of regular soap as it can dry them out more. i put the lanolin on before i shower or after showering and cleaning them only with water.

ack. mine too. my nips are purple too. they are sooooo super sensitive, and i got the dry flaky. hubby says he'll rub lotion on for me. ha.

Mine are getting that way too. They're also turning kind of white colored in the very center... No leakage for me yet either.

I seriously love how brutally honest everyone is about their nasty strange nipples!!!

Mine were dry and super itchy around 12-16 weeks. I read a breast feeding book that says to not put any lotion on them, and just let the natural oils from your glands do their work... and bam! problem solved for me.

I don't have leakage of milky stuff yet, but I do massage my boobs to try to not get bad strech marks,and it seems that they do leak a drop or two of some clear fluid... any one else? maybe it's just those natural oils in overdrive?

I was just thinking the exact same thing about mine. Dry and crusty!

And my boobs are HUGE in general now. I can't imagine them getting ANY BIGGER! Dear goodness.

No, that sounds like you ARE leaking colostrum. It started during week 16 with both of my pregnancies. It only comes out of mine early on when I apply pressure. Later on, it comes out more easily. Sorry to be honest, but it's true!
