Hi ladies, my doctor told me yesterday they wanted to do a growth u/s in 2w because of my MTHFR mutations (I have 2). I was so excited about the u/s that I forgot to ask how common it for the mutations to effect LO's growth. Have your doctors said anything to you about there being a link or have you read anything about this?

I think it is because if there is clot or some kind of blood restriction in the placenta, it could affect your LOs growth. They are just checking to stay on top of it.
Are you on Lovenox or any other blood thinners? I go for monthly ultrasounds to check for signs of clotting (they check blood flow through the placenta) and monitor the baby's growth. MTHFR can cause blood clots, which can restrict the baby's growth (one of the possible side effects).

Nope, I'm not on Lovenox. My OBs and hematologist said the newest research states it is not necessary for MTHFR mutations. I am taking Neevo, BA, Folgard 2xs and calcium supplements due to calf cramps, and iron supplements due to anemia.
I did google and found a New England Journal of Medicine study that found MTHFR does not contribute to IUGR. I just read the summary and didn't look at their methodology or anything else.
I go back in 3w for this growth u/s. I'll either ask more about it then or possibly call and ask to speak with the OB who mentioned this to me yesterday. Thanks, ladies.

My dr told me I'm at higher risk of IUGR because of my mthfr and blood clotting issues. I will be monitored the whole time.
