Pre-School and Daycare

what does your kid wear to school?

DS starts preschool on Sept 12.   I bought him a bunch of long sleeved tshirts and pants with full elastic waists.   Some are from Target.   He has a couple of Okie Dokie ones from JCPenny and some from Kohls(I think Jelly Bean brand?)

He has nicer pants but I don't want them to get ruined with paint and stuff plus they have buttons.   I wanted to send him in something comfortable and easy to pull up and down when he goes to the bathroom.

He'll be wearing sneakers everyday.

Re: what does your kid wear to school?

  • DS has only gone one day so far, but so far I'm sending him in elastic-waist shorts, polo shirts, and tennis shoes. We don't buy expensive clothes so I'm not too worried about them getting ruined. Plus, he's a pretty clean kid anyway.

  • That is basically what I send DS in everyday.

One day recently I was getting DS dressed and he told me he didn't want to wear the shirt because it had a hole. He had cut his shirt with sissors. I hadn't even noticed. So when the school said "send in play clothes they may get dirty/stained" I add or cut. :)

  • I send DD in play clothes.  All her bottoms have a full elastic waist.  Her school requires athletic shoes and socks.  I don't send her in anything I would be upset about if it got ruined.

  • It's still hot here so DS mostly wears a collared short sleeve striped polo shirt from Gap, shorts (with metal clasp or elastic waist) with tennis shoes.

  • DS starts Sept 12 also. He will be wearing full elastic waist pants and tshirts with tennis shoes every day. I don't want his good clothes getting ruined. Also, the elastic waist is much easier for him when he goes potty.

  • T-shirts/tanks, shorts, skirts, and dresses so far. For shoes, she has a pair of sneakers and a pair of sneaker-type mary janes.

DD1 loves to wear dresses, so we have a lot of casual ones. There are very few outfits she has that I wouldn't send her to school in. Most of the clothes we have either wash well, or were not so expensive that I'd be upset if they got permanently stained.

She still struggles with jean snaps, so she usually just wiggles herself in and out of jeans without unbuttoning them when she has to go to the bathroom. But it's been so hot that jeans haven't really been an good option yet. I do wonder how she'll do with tights this winter, or if I should stick with leggings instead. But we haven't done any winter clothes shopping yet.

  • My kids do not do collars so t-shirts, pants, shorts, sneakers. From LE, Target, and wherever else my hhusband finds stuff online. Tsukihoshi or Stride Rite shoes, only.

  • Shorts with elastic waist bands, although this year I may try a couple of snaps as they've gotten pretty good at them.  T-shirts or collared knit shirts, tennis shoes and socks.  In the winter, long sleeve t's and elastic waist long pants (they wore jeans every once in a while).

  • We start the 12th as well. Julia pretty much will only wear skirts and dresses, so we got cheap skorts/skirts and dresses with leggings. She has one pair of jeans if I can convince her to wear them, but otherwise I'm sure she'll live in t-shirt material dresses with leggings all year.

  • DS wears a tee-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes.  His teacher told us to buy his school clothes at Good Will because they will get painted on, colored on, etc.  We didn't buy his clothes there but he wears clothes that we don't care about getting ruined.

  • DS1 wears shorts, t-shirt, and sandals. In fall/winter, he'll be in jeans and long sleeve shirts.  They don't wear uniforms until Kindergarden, which he'll be going next year.  Then, he'll have to wear khaki's or blue slacks/shorts....white, red, or navy polo, or school logo polo....and tennis shoes.

  • I think she will be wearing jeans and shirts for the most part. She has a few dresses and skirts that I will put with leggings.

Shoes will be tennis shoes, sandals, or ballet flats.

  • DD wears a uniform to her current school.

At her previous one she wore a lot of leggings and long sleeved tshirts in darker colours.

  • I learned the hard way about that one.  I used to give Harmon nice clothing to wear and it was all ruined.  No more.  When Harmon goes to school we get the cheapest stuff possible for him to wear.

  • We started a month ago and it's ungodly hot here.  I made sure to get elastic waist shorts that he could easily pull down for the bathroom.  We don't buy expensive clothes....he wears a lot of t-shirts and polos and a couple button down short sleeve shirts.  I buy everything in dark colors because my kid is very messy and dark colors hide stains better :-P He is wearing sandals, but we have to go out and buy him tennis shoes because the teachers are concerned about *safety*.  Really though, a month of school and nothing has happened, I think we're good, but whatever.  I made sure to get athletic-type sandals that would be sturdy and stay on (strap on the back too) but we were planning on getting him some tennis shoes anyway (just later, when it was cooler).

I bought a couple pairs of pants already at a consignment sale last weekend.  I'll buy him more winter clothes as we get closer to that time.  Most of his t-shirts he'll still be able to wear, but I'm also getting long sleeve shirts to go underneath and hoodies so he can layer and be warm.

  • It's still super hot here so he wears tshirts and elastic waist shorts with tennis shoes. In the fall he wears sweats or pullon cargo pants with long sleeve tshirts.

  • In the summer, its all t-shirts or tank tops w/ shorts, a few skorts.  Sneakers or mary janes.

In the fall/winter, its normally tunics and leggings, occassionally jeans/cords and a hoodie or sweater.

Everything is easy-on/easy-off and completely washable.

  • My son is 3 and he goes to school M-F.  He goes to a private preschool/daycare and they constantly have activities and the only stains I have issues with are from his lunch!  He does get paint on his fingers and stuff but never on his clothes.  He usually wears a t-shirt and shorts, but on Wednesday and Thursday they go to chapel so I usually send him in a polo style (collared) shirt and then shorts.  It is really casual usually but I like to send him in something dressier since chapel is in the actual church.  I only send him in sneakers since the code requires the playground have mulch and that pokes his toes, etc. if he wears sandals so sneakers are the only option.

  • Uniforms - elastic waist shorts and polo shirts for boys.  They have to wear closed toe shoes.

  • I send them in play clothes and comfy shoes, so I don't worry about any messes appearing on their clothing.  I have nicer outfits for them that I use when we go out on weekends
