1st Major Mom Panic!

My DS had his 4 month check-up yesterday...

Last night he had a low-grade fever but was acting fine. This morning he was just a little cranky but still ok. This afternoon he was bloody murder screaming any time I layed him down! I picked him up and realized he was super warm so I took his temp - 101!!!!!  

I know that a temp is normail after shots, but he was fine after his 2 month shots and I just didn't expect this reaction. I would have been fine if the thermometer read 99, but seeing 101 completely sent me into panic mode. He's calmed down now and sleeping (and I think I'm checking on him every 20 seconds) - I gave him a little Tylenol. This is our 1st and I've never had to deal with an infant's temp spiking like that. Just hoping it will stay down and we don't have to take him to urgent care later this evening!

    Mine had this reaction at her 4 month as well.  My first DD didn't have this reaction until her 6month.  101 temp is pretty normal, but yet terrifying nonetheless!  Next time he gets a temperature, strip him of all clothing and let him chill in his diaper and wipe him down with a warm washcloth and let him air dry.  This almost instantly helps reduce the fever 2 degrees!  In my experience this methods (along with a little little tylenol) breaks the fever within 10-30 minutes.

    i hear ya. day after shots dd's went to 102.7. called and gave her tylenol and it went away quickly. lots of cuddles and sleep that day!

    DS didn't react at all with the 2 month shots, but the 4 months he also had a low fever and was cranky.  The advice nurse told me it might be an even stronger reaction at 6 months.

    This happened with DD as well! She handled her other vaccinations with no problems then we went for the 4 month and then next she had a fever ALL DAY and was not happy. She also had a red spot on each of her vaccination sites. But by the next day she was a lot better already! I am dreading the 6 month one now! I hate when babies have fever...so scary.

    (I don't think DS ever had reactions with vaccines other than being a little grumpy)

    DD got a 101.1 fever after her 4 month shots too. Poor kiddos!
