I think whichever way you prefer is what it is. Peyton Manning, the football player, is obviously a dude, but I LOVE the name Peyton for a girl. To each his own and if anyone has something to say about it, OH WELL! (imo)

I say both. Usually I think of a name as 'more boy' or 'more girl' but Peyton just seems equally both to me. Peyton Manning... Peyton on One Tree Hill.

Peyton is actually the name I have picked out for my son, but I have heard a lot of both. I think it was one of those names that probably started out as a boy's name but is now picking up steam for girl's as well.
I think it is whatever you want. If this LO is a girl we will name her Avery, which is like Peyton, can go either way.
Funny you say that! First, I only know one Peyton and it's a little boy, but I can see that name go both ways. I don't see it sounding more masculine or feminine either way. I say go with what you like
My nephew's name is Avery, and until he was named I totally thought it was a girl's name because I only knew little girls with that name. I'm still leaning toward Avery being more "girly", but found out it was originally a boy's name. Who would have known.
The first time I remember hearing it was Rebecca De Mornay's character in "The Hand the Rocks the Cradle", so I automatically think girl. But, it's definitely become more unisex. If you like it, go for it!

There was a Peyton in my elementary school that was a girl and then OTH makes me always think girl. I have always loved the name and was sad a friend used it for her baby boy!
I also dislike the Payton spelling...it just looks awkward to me
Re: boy or girl name?
I loved Bronwynn for a girl even though everyone kept telling me it was for a boy. Same with Micah. :P
Thanks everyone! Still not sure, but DH is sold on the name lol
This is really interesting! I never thought about the different spellings...BFP 1 on 10.30.10 spontaneous m/c on 12.28.10 at 12 weeks
BFP 2 It's a girl! Born 1.18.12 at 39w
I've never seen it spelled with an 'a', even for girls. That is an interesting way to do it!
