I was told that if you have a footboard on your bed to take something and tie a rope or something long onto it so you can pull yourself up to get out of bed easier. I never was able to do that since we do not have a footboard though so I have no idea how well it works.
a shower seat. i couldnt stand up fully straight for weeks. and all of the above you guys mentioned. also it helped reduce swelling and pain to put those freezer packs you get with formula inside a towel and stick them on the incision.
Cloth diapering, VBAC, BF & FF, AP momma to two 2 and under. Special needs - DS born with clubfoot and diastrophic dysplasia (dwarfism)
Lots of Ibuprofen. I didn't like being out of it because of the stronger drugs.
Pillows to prop up baby for BF.
I lived in loose light weight pjs from Target.
A big cup to drink out of. I was always thirsty and didn't want to keep getting up to get more.

Definitely Ibuprofen! Pain killers make me feel like a zombie. A pillow for your back and a pillow for your (still there) belly.

I second the big cup! I'm still using the cup from the hospital! That and ginormous panties.

STRAWS! I was never so thirsty in my entire life (or hungry) and I wasn't coordinated enough to nurse/balance a new baby on my lap without spilling ice cold water all over him, unless I had a straw!

Big underwear (like 2 or 3 sizes bigger than what you would normally wear) the thought of anything coming close to my incision freaked me out!
Big pants for the same reason as above
A shower seat for the first few days after
I needed someone to help me out of bed for a good 4 or 5 days
Even though I didn't deliver vaginally, I loved the peri bottle...for the first few days I was in way too much pain to bend down far enough (even at all) to wipe

I could not sleep laying down for the first week so my mother purchased a large pillow/oversized that I used to prop myself up at night. This helped me get up out of bed. I would wear flip flops in the shower for extra traction on the shower floor.
It is a good idea to dry you incision with a blow dryer on low/cool after a shower. It help to heal it faster and nothing can stick to it. i.e. pants or underwear.
a Belly Binder (doesn't have to be the belly bandit)
yoga/loose fitting pants
mesh panties from the hospital (those I loved)
and much more I just can;t think of right now
I don't think I could have functioned without my binder! That sucker was a lifesaver! Everything else listed here I totally agree with, but I had to re-emphasize just how important this was for me.
-Something to hold on to for when you get up and sit down on the toilet!
Our hospital JUST redid the maternity ward, and there was NOTHING near the toilet to help a woman sit!!
It was the one thing I reported on my review. The toilets were SUPER LOW and had no support bars!
I'm hoping they addressed this!
So it wasn't just my hospital! I hated that, and how could they not know to put a railing or something by the toilet. I'm not the first woman to have this problem! I couldn't believe it. I also lived in DH's pajama pants because they were bigger than any pants I had. I wore them up by my belly button so not on incision. And big ol granny panties for sure. I also slept in my recliner for a couple weeks after I figured out getting out of bed was a b!tch. I was only taked 2-3 hr naps anyways so the recliner was perfect.
I had a fairly easy recovery this go round, but my go-to items were 800mg ibuprofen, hydrogen peroxide (I got a staph infection with my first, wasn't about to let that happen again), huge cup with straw to stay hydrated, ice from Sonic to chew on, always infinity overnight pads with wings (I didn't bleed much).
Def. a STEP STOOL- I did not have one with DS#1 and I literally had to climb in and out of bed because I am short. I believe that caused my recovery time to last longer.
This time around I had one and I was not in as much pain at all!
If you have staples- then ask for special pads to wear in between your skin and the mesh undies so the staples do not get caught and you have extra cushion in case you bump it accidental against something.
Those mesh panties were AMAZING. My nurse was super nice and gave me an extra bag of them.
Internet access. I googled any questions I had related to what's normal for a c-section recovery.
Washclothes. The thought of soap in my incision FREAKED me out. So I held one over my incision when showering. And one to dry it off. They said it staying moist can lead to infection.
Easy to make meals. (although I lived off fast food for a while there. TOO tired/lazy). Lol.
AMAZING DH/SO to help with everything.

TMI. But Grooming down there before I went into labor would have been a good idea. Given I couldnt see past my enormous belly I had to try to do it. The nurse dry shaved me before surgery. RAZOR BURN+SORE INCISION AREA=

Granny panties. Maybe it is just me but I hated the living hell out of the mesh panties. They left mesh patterns on my butt (maybe I just have a fat butt?) which made me itch like crazy. My MIL got me granny panties while I was still in the hospital because I hated the mesh ones so much. This time I am taking them to the hospital and I would recommend this to everyone in case you do happen to get the itchies from the mesh underwear.
Also, flip flops or other shoes that will accommodate your feet if you get swollen from the IVs. I had an 8 lb. baby and came home 2 lb. lighter because I was so bloated, and yes I did drink water constantly.
DD born 10/10/07 * DS born 11/25/11 * #3 due 3/9/2015

Huge granny panties and pants with elastic waistbands.
An awesome husband who will take care of the whole family while you recover.
lots of pillows
long maxi dresses (even yoga pants hurt me!)
-Everything in the same area as you will be in ( diapers/wipes/change of clothes for baby) so you don't have to go up/down stairs too often.
-Helpful friends/family
-Pads
-Something to hold on to for when you get up and sit down on the toilet!

All PP recs are great.

Could not have survived without:
The mesh undies in the hospital and huge pads
belly binder thing they had me in, if I didnt have it on I felt like my insides were going to fall out
Ice packs
the peri bottle for cleaning the incision.
