what does bh feel like again?

I am pretty sure that in my birthing class the instructor said bh contractions should not feel like cramps but everytime i google "menstrual-like cramps at 36 weeks" (which is what I am experiencing) all signs are pointing to bh. Although I am not feeling any hardening or anything that people usually say to describe a contraction so I am just a little confused. So I guess my question is...does anyone know why I might be feeling a tad crampy?

Re: what does bh feel like again?

  • I have been getting BH contrax since I was about 20 weeks... And no matter how much water I drink (I'm part camel you know!) I get them often! They are definitely a hardening or tightening of my uterus; infact it makes my stomach look very lopsided... Up until the last two days - it has never been coupled with menstrual like cramps. I can't say what you're feeling but i just wanted to tell you what my BH's feel like.

  • I haven't noticed any tightening of my stomach, but I have had period-like cramping pretty often the past few days.  I am thinking it's BH contractions.

  • According to everyone I've talked to, contractions feel like mentrual cramps. I've been having them off and on for a couple of weeks.

  • I sometimes get tightening, but more often than not it's the menstrual cramping.  Every time I mention it to my nurses at the dr's office, they immediately ask if there's been additional pelvic pressure or bleeding, but it's never the case.

My first early labor experience was a lot of menstrual cramping, so just be aware that these cramps shouldn't just be written off right away, especially if they seem cyclical at all.

  • I've been having BH since 20ish weeks, my belly gets hard, and I have menstrual like cramping during. Some have been painful, some have been just uncomfortable.

Without the hardening, I don't think it is a BH but I could be wrong.

That being said, I think many people have noticed a more crampy feeling around this time, so I think it is normal

  • I've been having mild menstrual-like cramps for maybe 3 weeks now. I don't think it's BH, because it's not a pattern of discrete contractions-- it's more like a dull, constant (or fluctuating on and off) cramping, similar to intensity to the type of cramps that would usually alert me that my period was starting.  My doctor said that it's really common at this stage.

I haven't been able to figure out exactly what BHs feel like-- sometimes I think I have them, but I'm not sure. But they are supposed to be painless.

  • huh, so interesting! ok so at least i'm not alone.
